New Camera Mount!

Pics of my new cameras with the mount. I'm able to switch between the internal and external camera with the push of a button. This is a simple 2 channel setup. I've also got a 4 channel version in the works. The video clip was shot last night. I've got some ideas to really improve the sound quality, which I will post in my next video.
I've got 2 versions of the mount here. One with a micro ball head which unfortunately adds $20 to the cost. I couldn't find the one for $9.95 that Jim posted. All of my favorite video places sell that one for atleast $16.
The one on the exterior is the simplest and cheapest but least flexible. Having the ball mount is great because you can really fine tune things.

My 2 channel switch box, allows me to switch cameras easily

Camera mounted to rear sun roof gives me a nice view of the dash and road. I need to add an extension to make the angle of view lower. That's my next adjustment.

Ok here's the video clip. Some notes:
1.) It was shot at 10pm, so it was dark
2.) I sped up the video, no I didn't drive that fast. I sped it up to show that even at high speed, the video is very steady, and not jerky. The very last scene with the Acura Integra is normal speed.
3.) File is 4.3MB and in Windows Media 9 only, sorry no QT.
Here it is:

Ok, nevermind on the MPEG1 file. It's 12 MB for the same video clip. I'm going out to shoot another one right now, lots of light should make for better video and smaller file size. I will post that later tonight.
I've made the extension bracket for the interior cam--should show better framing this time, and I found some velcro to get rid of the gaffer tape. Will post new pics as well.

1.) I made a bracket to extend the reach of the video camera down. Framing is much improved, but the extra length seems to provide an almost diving board effect. That is, it bounces like crazy. When the camera was rigid to the suction cup, this didn't exist. Means, if I'm going to make any kind of brackets, they need to be really solid, and not just a piece of sheet metal.
2.) Since the external camera records mostly wind noise, but I do like the engine start up sounds and steering wheel whine from the outside, and the camera mics are mono, the simple solution was patch the audio from the inside mic to the other unused channel of the external mic. That will allow me to have continuous inside audio when editing--no matter whether I'm switched to the inside or outside cam.

I run ZoneAlarm and have no issues, but I know quite a few people with issues with Norton. A friend of mine was recently complaining why she couldn't view GIF banners on her site but others could---she turned off the Norton Internet Security, and bam it worked fine.I just copy and pasted the link into a new browser window and my Windows Media Player pops up. Tell me if you can view the site at www.littlemini.us
That's where the file is located.

Thanks for posting that. That is really weird. Have you been able to watch Windows Media 9 movies before? Not sure what the deal is. I'm looking at the files on the web server and it is there. I copy and pasted the name of that file directly into here.
Ok I put up another link page. See if you can access this page:

I gotta run now, but I'm posting 2 more vids (uploading now--wait 10 min after this post)
The video has been slightly colorized. I need to do some more adjustments--they were kind of dark and not white balanced correctly.
http://www.littlemini.us/files/vacucamsday.wmv
http://www.littlemini.us/files/vacucamsday.mov
Second is a QT 6 version.
Ok this is a full rez clip, with color being adjusted for correctness, not effect. It's WM9 only. you can see a lot of vibration on the internal cam.
http://www.littlemini.us/files/vacucamsdayHI.wmv
My bracket extension, first try produces too much vibration.

Found some velcro to replace the tape!

Video, directory browsing not working.
Richard,
Still not working from my end. I get the same IIS errors as everyone else. When I try to use the one link it states that I'm not authorized. I smell a permissions problem.
I can give you an FTP account if you wish and I'll host them...

. That's what was playing at the time of driving.
This is highly weird.
Both domains are hosted on the same server. I just moved that file from the littleminis.us domain over to the c3club.org domainThe red X's issue is weird cause I didn't change anything. LOL
I'll move my other clips over to this site and see what's up.
--------------
Well I'm glad someone was finally able to view a clip. Tech support is working on the issue, but back to the video.
1.) The audio is live meaning what you are hearing is a mixture of the outside mic and inside mic. The only thing I did in editing was to reduce the loudness of the outside audio and increase the interior audio (Madonna music).
2.) You can see me reaching through the steering wheel to change cameras. The switches happen immediately--no editing here. I normally don't reach through the steering wheel, but I was in a straight line, and I was lazy. LOL
3.) The behind the driver view is better--oh wait, you didn't see the first clips so you have no idea what I'm talking about....it's better than before, but it's got too much vibration now.
4.) New clips coming shortly

Paul,
I talked to Tech Support, and there is some strange DNS as well as MIME TYPE issue involved. I've added the MIME types on the server to explicitly tell your browser that these files are ok to view.
I've also uploaded the original FAST movie to my other domain so this should work now.
I'm consolidating the links here:
http://www.c3club.org/dvd/vacucamsdayHI.wmv
http://www.c3club.org/dvd/vacucamsshort.wmv
Also please try the old links as well cause they MIGHT be fixed now:

http://www.littlemini.us/files/vacucamsday.mov

Let me know please. Thanks!

Cool vid. You do need a different place to mount the camera change buttons. You never know when some "squirley" driver is about and you would hate to have your hands throught the wheel.
I am only able to get the first link http://www.c3club.org/dvd/vacucamsdayHI.wmv with the others I get the same old error.

Cool. Thanks! I normally reach over the steering wheel to push the button, I just felt it was safe to do in this instance, since I was accerating straight on to the highway. But yep, not something I would normally recommend. LOL

I just talked to Tech Support, and it turns out I messed up something in my DNS settings. I got to wait for the changes to propagate, so 48 hours, the files at the littlemini.us should work. Sorry for the troubles. They should work fine at c3club.org

That's the weirdest thing. Both the clip that plays and the one you said is dead are in the same folder. I'm going to try renaming the dead link, and let me know if this works instead. Also I added the MIME types to this server as well to try to weed out any flakiness. Hope it works.
