Microphone?
Microphone?
I have my GoPro mounted to my tow hook. The video looks great but there's little sound, so I was going to add a Microphone at the exhaust (running a cable between the two). Does anyone have any recommendations for a good microphone? I've never used an external Mic on my GoPro before so any advice is greatly appreciated.
The gopro records in stereo. So you can actually record two different tracks and flatten the audio in iMovie or whatever you use. I have one mic wired to the intercom system of an aircraft and the other records ambient sound. If you just want car noises you'd be better served putting the mic in the engine bay (near the intake). Exhaust is usually too low of a note to record and reproduce well. Plus, you'll get the SC/turbo, intake, and BOV/bypass valve sounds. For a really trick effect hook up mono mics in the engine bay on the left and right side of the car. The result will be like you're there.
As for which mic to use, there are lots. Check out some video forums. You want something good at ambient noise so performance mics are not ideal.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't really heard the audio from a GoPro with a microphone attached, so I guess I have to start by looking there. It was interesting what you said about mic-ing the interior (under the bonnet). I really hadn't thought of that, but I will now. Thanks folks! I appreciate all of the help.
