Thanks for posting. I liked when you could see the shadow of the mount. Sure wish we had roads as smooth as that on LI...

Cool alias effect when the wheel spokes move backwards.

If you ever needed to check tire clearance this might work pretty well.

There are many things about the GoPro camera systems that I liked (I had 2 and recently sold them to a snowboarder) but the sound quality was not one of them - it sucks. Even tho they claim to have built in software to mitigate windnoise and such - my problem was a "static" sound and I could never figure out whether it was caused by harmonics, clipping or what.

The picture sure is clear tho, isn't it? What size SD card do the HD versions require? How many minutes of vid do you get on one?

What editing software did you use?

Yeah wind noise is always going to be an issue even though what you hear in video was all the wind noise left in just added music over it.

I was using 8gig card dont know yet how much record time will fit. I think its around 2 hrs, will find out this spring on the Dragon.

yes picture quality is outstanding, looks really great on hdtv 42"

I just used Windows Movie Maker.

Off the subject, are you member KC MINI Club ? If so may try to drop in on one of your events in near future.

Yes, I'm a KC MINI Enthusiast, and you're more than welcome to come join us anytime! Our next event is tomorrow night, we're doing a tour of homes with vast Xmas light displays, the route starts at Baron MINI at 6pm, and will last about 2 hours depending on traffic, then wind up at a coffee shop after. Here's a link to the event on our site....

http://forums.kcminiclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1993

I found a couple layers of duct tape over the mic opening knocks the wind noise level down considerably, and you might look at the documentation that came with the camera for the 'anti-wind-noise" software setting too.

Seems like with the normal GoPro camera the 2 gig card gave 54 minutes, so 2 hrs on an 8 gig with HD seems do-able, but in my camera the batteries never lasted that long, only about as long as the card - or about 55 minutes. If they've improved the battery life in the newer generation cameras that would be a plus. Look forward to seeing more vids, and I hope you can join us on our next drive or event. Check the website regularly for info......

Was doing a few tests myself this morning with the Gopro HD camera. Used the 1080p mode with a 4 gig card. Card will give you just about 45 minutes in that resolution. It was very overcast when I tested it this morning mounted on the rear headrest with a cruisecam mount with the non waterproof backing on the case. Picture wasn't great but I was expecting that since I've already seen youtube footage of the gopro hd in dark conditions. The test was more for wind noise, viewing area footage, and camera shake.

Mounted in the rear, I thought there was just too much on the interior of the car and not enough of the outside viewing area. My favorite viewing angle for driving vids is for most of the windshield with just enough of the driver to see his steering and shifting techniques. Mounting the camera to the front seats was much better, imo. There was still some static noise from the wind whether mounted to the rear or forward seats though not nearly as bad as I've heard with the previous gopro cam. Still, I'll have to test the camera later with the waterproof back on the casing. Have no doubt it'll get rid of that noise, but am worried it'll kill the sound as the sound of the exhaust/engine in my vids weren't as loud as I had hoped with the non waterproof backing. I'll post the appropriate short clips soon as I've finished uploading them.

Yeah I noticed it does require decent light, the video I posted was with the waterproof back,it does reduce engine/exhaust sound. Wating for them to make patch so you can mount upside down, will allow me to suction cup to sunroof. Have fun with it wating to see your vid.

Got two vids uploaded finally. First one was my very first attempt so any problems that came up I tried to fix in the next vid. This was recorded at 7am under cloudy skies so pic is grainy. Camera was mounted on a Cruisecam camera mount in the rear seat headrest. Camera was set to 1080 with spot exposure turned on and non waterproof backlid on the case. Unfortunately, besides the grainy pic, there's an annoying rattling noise throughout the whole video that was coming from a loose bolt in the Cruisecam mount that I fixed later with some rubber bands to act as a washer.

Second vid I did later afternoon under a fully clear sky. Using the same settings on the camera but instead mounted on the driver's headrest. Loose bolt on mount was taken care of so no more rattling in this vid. Unfortunately, I thought I had erased the previous vids on the memory card before setting off for the backroads, but in actuality, I didn't. Didn't really recall the proper way to do it so headed home with only a few minutes worth of footage on public streets and not the backroads I was headed too.

Third vid I took the next day as I was coming home. Slight change with the set up this time around. Went with 720p/30fps setting and used the waterproof backing on the case. Wanted to see how much of a viewing difference it was with 720p since it uses a 170 deg viewing angle vs the 127 deg viewing angle in the 1080p setting. Turned out to be a sunny but very windy day. Lots off crosswind entering into the car's cabin. Waterproof casing seemed to be doing its job but like others probably speculated, it kills the sound of the engine/exhaust in the interior. Could be different on a track day when you're WOT alot, but on the streets, you'd probably be better off with the non-waterproof back for in car videos. Probably gonna go back to non-waterproof casing, 1080p setting and do one more vid on the backroads.

Last video..1080p setting, spot focus exposure, non-waterproof casing, cruisecam mount behind driver's headrest.
Definitely can hear more wind noise with the non-waterproof case. But since HPDEs require open windows, I have no choice but to probably use the non-waterproof backing to catch more sound from the outside. Might be better on track at WOT. Guess I'll just have to see come Feb. This was at Calaveras Road at Milpitas, CA at 9 am. One other thing I noticed was the video picture washing out a few times when the sunlight was coming in almost directly at the camera at certain spots. Something else to keep in mind.
