Here's my first Nikon F. Purchased in 1973, still use it on occasion.
Oh! Almost forgot! I dropped this one in Lake Tahoe whilst shooting a model for a swimsuit calender! I filled a cooler with Lake Tahoe water, dropped the camera in, taped it up and delivered it to the repair shop. Since I had kept it wet, there was no chance for corrosion to set in.

It just forces the being selective part to post review instead of pre shutter click. However, statistically speaking, the odd are greatly improved they'll get a great shot. They may not know how it was done like a film person would, but at least they're trying where I'd be adding up just how much the canisters of Velvia were costing me.
Is that a camera or a TANK?
Solid!I've got ~8 year old original emulsion ISO50 Velvia still sitting in my fridge in the back corner long forgotten. Jim, do you still use any film nowadays?
I may as well list my tools too.
Film based equipment:
N90 (traveled around the world with this workhorse and learned most of what I know with it). This is what locked me into the Nikon brand.
N50
28-70mm f/3.5-4.5
75-300mm f/something slow
105mm f/2.8 Micro
50mm f/1.4
28mm f/3.5 PC tilt shift lens, old school manual only
20mm f/2.8
16mm f/2.8 fisheye
SB25
Digital era equipment:
Coolpix 950 (bought used just to see if this digital malarky was worth trying and moving away from slides scanned with a CoolScan LS-2000)
Kodak DSLR/n Pro AKA my landscape camera (full frame Nikon F mount because I like to shoot wide angle and Nikon did not have DX lenses back then) Need to sell this camera!
Nikon D2h (because the Kodak's autofocus was terrible for dynamic subjects) Got this while it was on a discontinued fire sale for 1/2 price. Need to sell this one too!
28-70mm f/2.8
70-200mm f/2.8 VR
Lensbaby v1 & v2 F-mount
2xSB600 & 2xSB800 flashes (thanks Dave B!)
ML-3 remote for shutter (thanks Dave B!)
Nikon D3 ("WOW" is the only way I can describe this camera)
1.4x & 1.7x teleconverters
soon to arrive...
SU800 (to learn more creative lighting techniques with)
18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 (for ultra wide on car rigging photos)
200-400 f/4.0 (for when I can tag along with Jim to the track
)Plus throw in a decade or two to save up the coin for all this stuff.

I've been shooting with a Nikon since I was 16. Don't feel like switching to Canon now.
Bodies:
- D70 (still running after almost four years, but probably going to upgrade to a D300 if I get the $$$)
- FM2n (backup camera, also use it for shooting B&W or when I'm feeling old-school)
Lenses:
- 50mm f/1.8 (who doesn't have this lens?)
- 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 DX (D70 kit lens)
- 105mm f/2 DC (defocusing control--a little gimmicky but a good portrait lens)
- 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR DX (local store had one in stock and I snapped it up instantly; never take this off my D70 now)

Hi everyone. I have been doing a bit of searching online for t he right DSLR camera. I currently have a Canon Rebel-something SLR (not digital) that i got from a friend. Can someone please tell me the difference between Nikon's D40 and D40X?
The D40X is ten megapixels versus the D40's six, is a couple hundred dollars more. You can read about the D40x and the differences between it and the D40 on Ken Rockwell's site.
Seeing the kind of image quality I get out of my old D50 (which a 6 MP camera also), I pretty much agree with Ken that a D40 would be a better choice, since you could put the savings towards a nice lens or a flash.
I also like having the faster flash sync speed of the D40/D50 (1/500th of a second) for using the built-in flash to balance daylight. The D40X can only sync to 1/200th.

Yes, KR's site is great. He's prone to exaggeration and hyperbole, (and he'll be the first to admit it), but I like the fact that he doesn't "worship at the altar of technology" and get all hung up on specifications and test measurements. If you haven't yet found his article on "Why Your Camera Doesn't Matter", it's a great read.
A lot of people at dpreview.com and similar sites seem to hate Ken, but I think part of it is that they don't read his articles, just the headlines. They hear him say something like "Digital Killed my Tripod", and assume that he's saying tripods are obsolete for *any* kind of shooting, which isn't the case. He's just saying that with the advent of digital cameras, better lenses, and image stabilization in lenses and camera bodies, you can take great handheld shots now at shutter speeds that you wouldn't dream of using without a tripod even fifteen years ago.
He's also not part of the "any serious digital photography needs to be done in RAW format" crowd, which seems to upset a lot of people. I tend to agree with him, though. I don't use RAW for much, unless I'm taking multiple exposures to form an HDR image and really want the extra dynamic range.

If you already have an account with Bill Me Later, you're good to go!
I've used the Bill Me Later option to purchase computers, HDTVs, etc.
In fact, just yesterday I received my Nikon D40 (the one that's on sale with the upgrade to the 2nd lens/bag/DVDs) plus various filters.
I've been playing around with the camera this morning and I'm simply amazed at the quality of the shots!
Hope this helps!
PS: ScottRiqui knows his stuff, too!
I am huge Nikon guy. I have a:

Jim could put a Sherpa to shame.
He has however given me the right to smack him if I catch him with more that two camera bodies on his person at once. Jim, where's that ridiculous photo of the guy with 4 SLR cameras slung over his neck?

I have an old 6006 with an SB22. Yeah, old stuff. The wife has a D80. We have 5 lenses between the two of us, mostly Nikkor. My wide-angle, Tonika 19-35 is very nice, at least I like it a lot.
I have a question for you guys.
I really like her D80 and want to ge a digital in a few months. The 10Mp is very nice and would lend it to prints 8x10 with no pixilation, from what I understand. I would be willing to get less Mp if it were full frame. What would be the least expensive full frame Nikon digital? I only need the body but it must be able to power the AF from older lenses. What are all the options in Nikon?

Full frame is wicked expensive; the DX sensors in the current Nikon cameras are great and much better bang for the buck. If you're really set on full frame, a used Kodak DCS SLR/n has a Nikon F mount and is full frame (camera portion is basically a Nikon N80 film camera). I have a spare SLR/n that I'm thinking about selling and you can also check out eBay. This 14Mp Kodak camera prints at 20"x30" without upscaling, but is far from perfect. PM me if you'd like to know more.
OK, so, full frame is out of the qustion. I just don't have that kind of scratch.
Since I have a film camera, I have no idea how to use Photoshop so "up-resing photos" is totally lost on me. Up-resing to me is using slide film.
I understand that you can dodge and burn like in a darkroom. Which wold be very cool.
D80 it is.

Speednut's right - Nikon is not the way to go right now for a non-professional full-frame digital SLR. AFAIK, their only model is the recently-released D3, and that's about $5k for the body.
I don't print much at 12" X 18", but I've had a lot of 8" X 10" prints made from my D50 (6 MP), and results are great.
