Nikon D80 or Canon 40D?
Another Nikon shooter here (D-70 and 70s). I think the D80 is the better camera for you because you already kind of know Nikon feel. I was amazed when I picked up my D70 how much it felt like the 6006. I was shooting a week before I read the owners manuel (there was the second dragon trip that week).
The Cannon 40D is a great camera. But it costs more (you get more), you already have some Nikor glass and equipment.
I think that I will also going to disagree with another poster and suggest you stay away from the Nikon D40 and 60. I could be wrong but you may have an issue using the auto focus using the lense from the film Nikon. If I am wrong on that issue I would suggest taking a close look at those cameras as well.
Back when I had the 6006 I wanted a SB24 soooo bad.
