Dragon crawl...

It's early (not too early), but is anyone else from MM looking to go down to MOTD in May (2-6)?

I'm looking to head down Early Thursday morning (in early, I mean have been through Chicago by 6:30am at the latest).

Let me know if you feel like you can "iron butt" it, and want to make the trip in one sitting, with some company. I'd like to take some interesting roads down, but in the interest of brevity (i.e. getting down there in time for the kick-off dinner), I'll most likely be taking the I-system. Maybe I'll find some fun roads on the way home - but hey, after the Dragon, that's kind of like skiing out west, then coming back and trying to find interesting terrain in the U.P.

"iron butt" Never heard that - but great. Used to do it, but, it's so much harder now than it was

I had considered going down, but as I haven't made any reservations and $$$ is a little light these days, I probably will not be going. If there are not takers here, you may want to check with members from the Chicago club.

That's too bad Shagz... I was hoping you could join us. We're leaving on TUE since our reservation @ Fontana is from Wed-Sun. We're going to take the trip home in one day.

I'm not a member, but I'm down in Kenosha. Would love to make the trip this year. (Would be my first as a Mini owner) Is there a large group that typically goes from Milwaukee?

Don't really know...this will be my first trip down as well. I know that a couple of other members have been down in the past, but I don't know if anyone goes down as a group.

As you can see, I've had this post up for almost a week with relatively few responses, so either a) there's not much interest here (in going to MOTD 07), b) others going were not too keen on my driving schedule, or c) other members are still in a holiday turkey induced coma and can't manage to type in a response.

you make the call

By the way, you don't necessarily need to be a member of Milwaukee MINIs to post here, but you should consider joining - real nice group of people, and if you act quick, you can't beat the price . Very low key, some nice events (well organized, fun, non-compulsory) - No, I'm not being paid to type this...

I get my MINI on this wednesday! I was at Dragon '04 in my first MINI, but haven't been back.

Since I wasn't sure I'd have a MINI this year, I don't have a reservation, but I'm going to try to work something out to get down there this year. My wife would love to go back, but we'll have to see what we can do with the kids.

We'll be joining the Milwaukee club, and partaking in lots of events. My 5 year old is already looking forward to the ice cream parties

I'm thinking of going, but haven't made any reservations yet... Anyone know of any decent lodging in the area still having any openings?

Thanks,
Ed

I just made reservations at Fontana Village at the beginning of this month (Jan). There are vacancies opening and closing on a regular basis it seems. If you haven't yet, check the Dragon Forum, there are constantly rooms opening up that people are trying to get others to take their reservation, so they don't have to forfeit their deposit.

BTW, I'm in Tosa also.

Where abouts in Tosa? I'm near 120th and Center...

I'm looking into lodging now. I may be doing the camping thing... My bro' is probably coming along as my navigator. Additionally, he is both a "brewmaster" and home brewer, so we will be participating in the beer swap...

This really sounds like a blast...

I reserved a camping spot at Fontana on Monday.

Still not sure if my wife will be able to make it or not, though.

Reservations booked...

Alright, as of tonight I'm in at the Fontana campground!

We (my brother and I) are coming in the 3rd and staying until the 6th.

MOE4me, your schedule driving down sounds like it will match ours. I'm in for a Mini "convoy" if that's still your plan...

A west sider, huh? I'm over around 76th & Wisconsin. Actually, I think we may have talked briefly during the Fall Foilage drive.

That sounds good, If I don't see you on one of the spring drives, I'll PM you well in advance of MOTD, and we can set something up.

I want to get the MINI out of storage prior to the March spring drive, but I discovered that my passenger side engine mount is blown and I would like to get it replaced (warranty) before things start bumping around too much. We'll see.

Booked in Robbinsville!

Just booked a room for my first MOTD! I'm from Kenosha, I'll probably be heading down wednesday & stopping for the evening near Cumberland Falls, KY. It just so happens to be a full moon that weekend, and Cumberland Falls is the only place in the Western Hemisphere where you can see a "Moonbow." Seems like a fortunate coincidence, one the wife and I probably won't pass on!
Hopefully I'll get to meet some Milwaukee Mini folks at the dragon, or catch up with you at some point along the way. I've been to the dragon once by motorcycle, but not in the MINI, so I'm REALLY excited to get down there!

Matt, how come I have not seen your Mini around Kenosha? Or have I?? Anyways, I am the Hyper Blue/White roof, mirrors, wheels, stripes with the Alta Rallye light bar running around Kenosha. Can't miss me...

I think I've seen you once or twice... Near the TacoBell on 52nd, next to the McDonalds. I was jealous of the lights, I actually just got my PaloUber Light bar in. Just waiting for a slightly warmer day to do the work! I'm in a Hyper Blue S, blue roof, tinted windows, soon to have lights. Still working on stripe/roof designs! Hopefully I'll see you around. I live down by the Kenosha Hospital.

Are you heading to the Dragon???

Hey Xiek,
Thanks for the invite, but in the interest of getting down there ASAP, I'm going to skip the extra 255 miles of driving up to Detroit to meet with you guys. Hopefully, we'll meet somewhere along the way, though.

I've pulled 18-20 hr road trips (non-stop; unassisted) in the past, but I'm hoping those days are long past...well, my glutius is, anyway.

Happy Motoring,
Rick

No Dragon for me this year. Just started a new job, so there is no way I can get off during that time period.....

I lease a shop in Kenosha here that I do some automotive restoration work in, so if you need a nice warm place plus a little help to do the lights, just let me know. I can help with the stripe situation also. I also think it might be time for a pulley swap and air intake if you don't already have them ...
