BMW got this right!
I know this is a Mini fourm but had to tell everyone this. For kicks I test drove a new 335i BMW. All I can say is WOW! What an amazing engine, this is the smoothest i've ever got to 100mph before. Hey SRTech do you think we can shoehorn one in a Mini
Or at least twin turbocharge my wifes Z4
. Yep BMW got this one right.

Hmm. I had the exact opposiye rraction to it. Don;t get me wrong, its fast. But it feels way too disconnected. I like to feel like I'm doing 100 MPH when I'm doing 100. I guess its just taste, but they took it way too far to the luxury side of the spectrum.

The car I drove had the sport package with the 18" wheels. Maybe that was the differance?
Probably not... I felt that the clutch was too light, the brake peddal had no feedback, the gear shift was loose, etc.... I couldn;t even hear the beautiful engine as I accelerated to 120 on the freeway.... If you want luxury and speed, look at the Audi RS4. I loved that car.

If they do a "M" version of the "One" with this engine I am going to have to look at it. I saw some very nice looking "One" series in Italy last fall.
I have to agree the "conectedness" of the Mini is the main reason I still like it after 4 years. btw... I drove the 07 with the sport sus yesterday and it is no where near as connected as my car or others with sus mods.

Thought this thread might cause a problem in this forum
. But my gosh this kind of hate against BMW? Dont get me wrong, I love my Mini, the way it feels on the road, but the engine in this car is a whole differant ballgame, do you not agree? Added this quote from Mark Gillies, one of the best known road test guy's in the world. Also btw the RS4 is way more money than this car. More inline with the new M with the V-8MARK GILLIES
The BMW 335i may just be the best car in the world at the moment, if you balance performance, style, and sheer driving pleasure against value for the dollar. It has replaced the outgoing E46 M3 as the car I would buy as my daily driver, particularly since it is far more forgiving over broken pavement yet still has the suds to allow you to kick the tail out of line when you’re in hooligan mode. I even like the way it looks, which is an admission for someone who has generally loathed the Bangle/van Hooydonk experiment with ugliness at BMW. The car’s only fault? An interior that still looks low-rent compared with the beautifully crafted cabin of the old 3-series
These are fighting words.
Have owned numerous cars over the past 50 yrs. and rate BMW consistently dependable with handling and performance far exceeding all others.
Currently have a 325iC, M3, and of coarse the Mini, which I wouldn't have bought if it wasn't made by BMW.
I hope this doesn't mean you hate me.
I think you owe my BMW's an apology but I'll settle for a beer.

RS4 is an awesome car. I put a deposit down on one. But by the time it got here with options it was over 70K, not even in the same realm as a 1 series. For 70k I could get an M3 and have Dinan "blow" it on what I think is a much better looking car and the handling would be on par.
If you go out and get a new turbo mini and add all the right options and get the future JCW kit etc etc you are way over 30K. To have that twin screw 300hp on a small 1 series would be awesome and of course REAR WHEEL DRIVE! A couple of simple mods and you are way over 350hp. Know you are in STI neighborhood.

Well I LOVE BMW. Such snobbery about a company that makes the MINI. I've owned three BMW's ( 530, 320 and an E36 325is which I owned 12.5 years). I only sold last year due personal reasons. I miss it already. I do like the new 335i as I was not impressed of late of the Bangle era designs. I had thought (beleive) it or not to buy a E46 M3 last holiday season but that would have required the MINI and Lotus to go. Decided I'll wait until the 335 is available used and off lease.
My BMW was great in driving and feel. Of course standard it had to be upgraded a bit. BBK, Exhaust, wheels and tires , suspensions, etc, etc. Hmmmm, Kind of like we do with our MINI's.
I'll say one thing. BMW the parent gives better seats to the BMW brand than the MINI. Seats are terrible (I have an S too). I will do something about this but in my BMW I could drive in the seats all day and not feel tired. Even pretty good for the occasional drivers school (track).
Here you go... Flame on.
