Hello Mid-Ohio!
Bob from Chicago. I want to take my nephew to his first autocross as part of his Christmas present. He lives in Columbus and so I was hoping you guys can point me to any intro to autocross events in 2009. Our BMW club puts those on here in Chicago so I am looking for a similar event where an instructor would ride in the car with him. He may be driving an old GTI for this.

I would suggest the Miata Club (http://buckeyemiataclub.com/) their events are cheep and you get a ton of runs. Ask for Steve and he will gladly help a new person out, my first time driving he rode with me and explained everything. A few Minis run witrh them on a consistant basis so they welcome us to their events, they do not have enough Miatas to cover their costs so they like others to join in the fun.

I've Auto-Xed with the Miata guys - they're VERY welcoming and laid back. None of that hyper-competitive crap like you get with "official" events, and you get a LOT more runs - I did something like 8 or 10 in a single day. I highly recommend AUto-X for anyone with a MINI - doing so will show you the limits of your car and your driving in ways that you simply can't get in any other way, in a safe space.

We should get a group together and let the Miata guys know - I really want to do it again personally and I bet Amy would like to do it too.
