BTW Vestanpance warned me not to go red, white and blue... so I'm getting mixed messages here... this is getting to be like a real job

That's why I used a grayish-blue tint and not a full-on BLUE.

I dunno... I like it - it's just enough blue without being in your face, IMHO. Thoughts?

Well, naturally, *I* think it's BRILLIANT, but I'll bow to the wishes of the majority, of course.

Thanks, Terry!

If we decide we like it, I can restore them easily - I just bashed it out in like 15 seconds with a simple recolor.

I drew a couple back in there, same red as the squares... it's a little thing but somehow it makes a big difference with that picture

GoDaddy called today to see how things were going with my new site... I was a little surprised by that, I actually have a rep there now I guess. Anyway, I asked them about establishing a new site with a mail-list handling system... he sent me some info that I haven't had time to look at yet... but from our conversation it sounds very nice, one question I had was if we can import legacy info into it... he said no problem... there's several levels of service, but it sounded like $7 a month would cover more than this organization would ever need.

Here we go... the dread money issue. Bottom line is: we don't have any. As you might have noticed, some here are pretty militant (or, "adamant" anyway) about not being "fenced in" by dues and the like, and since Aaron has traditionally run the MoM server out of Outmotoring, honestly we've had no need for a treasury.

Do they offer a pre-paid option that gives a discount, or is the only payment option to provide a credit card? I suppose we could have a raffle or something to raise up a pot o' cash if they'd take a lump sum.

I'd pass a hat at Mini Mornin's, but I think the silverbacks would just fling poo.

(( ducking ))

In my younger days I ran with a bunch of Harley riders... [I still have an '63 Panhead & a "48 Indian Chief] we were totally unorganized but they/we loved the camaraderie of other scooter tramps... we would meet ever once in awhile and we always had 50/50 drawings... it's fun... yea sell tickets for a couple bucks each through them into a hat... pull a ticket out... the lucky winner gets half... the club the other half... all good fun!

Please don't add this to the calender just yet.

I thought ALL of us had a part in "designing" the badge? We were ALL given the opportunity to voice what we liked and did not like, when we were first throwing ideas for an "official club badge" around almost 17 months ago. As I recall, WE had many designs to select and/or correct, before coming down to the one on this page.

We did, but in the end we had about 6 different designs, all of which had some fans and some that hated them, so I just closed my eyes, took a deep breath and did a final customization that seems to use elements of the designs that everyone liked. It's a hybrid.

If I'd waited for a true consensus, we'd still be using Chuck's "duct tape wonder" as the official badge. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm not a fan of silver tape, personally.

Does this mean that I can count on you to chip in a few bucks to the 50/50 raffle then? That's a great idea, BTW, Terry... how often did you need to make use of such a thing? I don't see us ever being large enough to do something like, say, a hosted track event or anything that fancy - I'd just like to make it so that neither you or I or any one person needs to absorb the cost of the web site - I'd rather spend my cash on my kids and my car.

I you guys can pay one time up front for a year, I will donate the $84 to pay your monthly fees for the first year. Just let me know which one of you gets the money.

Nobody should have to cover an unfair amount of cash - that's not in the friendly spirit of the club (IMHO). But I'll be happy to take your cash for the raffle (whenever I get around to setting it up - maybe by next MINI Mornin' - there's no real rush).

Terry - are we OK with paying to some set time period in a lump sum? Worst case, I guess I can set up a special checking account for the club's money, and use that to fund the site. Do they take Paypal auto-payments? That's another option...

You're a good man... BTW I love your MINI, we didn't have a chance to talk Saturday but I really like what you've done with that car!

I think the first thing that needs to be done is to ask Aaron his thoughts... he, after all, is the current owner and from his post he seems to be very accomodating. In regards to the money I see that I just got a coupon for free hosting from GoDaddy... not sure yet what that is all about... so that $56 may not even that... for the first year! I'm thinking a little 50/50 action at the breakfast meetings could easily pay for all this... heck we only need to clear $5 a month to pay for a site like I just put up on my Domain.

The Domain name is the issue... now I guess we could buy the .org version and start immediatly... then on 3/22 buy the .com version when it expires from Aaron, that way the club would own both Domain Names going forward?

That's not a bad idea... What's a domain name go for now? It's been a few years since I bought one.

We can check with Aaron at breakfast next month, unless he chimes in here - I assume he's already purchased the .com version for the forseeable future and written it off as an advertising expense. I'll leave it up to him, of course, as to what happens to that name. For all I know, he'd prefer to retain ownership so he can keep the write-off - whatever's best for him.

$56 covered the Domain and hosting for a year... the current club .com Domain Expires 3/22... of course as a good business man he has his business domain purchased well into the future... we could park one or the other Domains after the 3/22 date and forward visitors to whichever one has the actual site... of course keep in mind that all this, while minimal, does push up the price!

That was a good idea. Waiting until the next breakfast didn't seem appropriate seeing as how how you are already designing a new site he still controls. He's a very honorable & reasonable guy. I can see no problems at all. I'm sure he'll be happy he was finally asked.

Mark, you are a true silverback monarch. I'll buy you donuts for the year. Thank you.

Does this mean you are no longer an independent?
