so sad!

I was driving I-270 East bound between Worthington and Westervile on Tu., May 15 at 4:00 and as usual the traffic was jacked up. I saw emergency lights in the right lanes (where the new ramp to I-71 is) and saw a Pepper White MINI that looked like it had been in a crack up.

I hate it when stuff like that happens! I was all the way left (as uaual) so I couldn't get a plate number or even tell if it was an 07. I hope everyone was ok. Anyone else see this?

Sorry to hear about that. There is an I-270 here, too, running north/south. I don't think they connect, but I could be wrong. I thought there is only 1 road (or route) per number??

There are many identical 3 digit interstates. Two digit interstates with even numbers run east-west; odd number run north-south. An even first digit denotes a connecting route. An odd first digit is a spur. The second and third digits of a three digit route is the route (or one of the routes) it connects to.

So, why does I270 run north/south here?

For the same reason that "indestructable" means "not destructable" and "inedible" means "not edible" but "inflammable" means "can catch on fire".

I actually got in an argument with my father about that when I was about 7, after I saw a fuel truck go by and I wanted to know why they would bother to tell you it can't catch on fire. Caused me almost as much PTSS as when he bought me a Vega.

The I270 here actually has a N, S, E, AND W. There are even more "secret interstate codes: I think a "6" in front of a route number indicates a business spur.

The even-odd/ EW-NS thing is also a general thing. For example, in Wytheville VA, I77N and I81S travel the same direction! Be careful if you get off the freeway to get fuel (and you probabaly will since the prices there are like they are in north Georgia by the TN state line.) I remember having a headache trying to think about which road I needed to get on to travel my intended direction.

I remember 270 running from Fredrick MD down to DC... is that where you're from, Lynn? My 270 circles Columbus, OH.
