Anybody interested in a drive April 12 into DC down the Tidal Basin and past the famous Japanese Cherry Blossoms?

I would like to propose a drive from the Alexandria VA starting at the Marina on the GW Parkway before National Airport. Follow the GW Parkway to I-395. Take I-395 across the Potamac and exit at the Potomac Park/US Park Police Exit. From that exit, follow Ohio Drive along the Potomac River, and past the Cherry Blossoms. Then a ride up Independance Avenue, to Jefferson Drive and up the mall to the Capitol Building. Then back down the mall along Madison Drive, to 15th street, to Constitution Ave down past the Elipse and the White House. From there Rock Creek Park.....Memorial Bridge to Arlington....???? Any thoughts.

While this would be a scenic drive, its not real twisty or fast. Also there is little to no parking in Potomac Park, I'm not expecting to pull over in the park for pics, sightseeing etc... We could do that at the Marina or someplace else along the route.

Any thougths to round out the route.... Anybody interested in going????

As much as we would LOVE to join in on this one - we will have to pass. We have a wedding to attend in Baltimore.

That's fine we'll see you two weeks later to visit Cooter, Boss Hogg, and the rest of the bunch from Hazard County!!!

 

The route and plans are finalized, we're meeting at 8:30AM (0800) for the military types, at the marina on the GW Parkway between Old Town and National Airport. From there to Potomac Park, up The Mall to the Capitol, and back down again, finally up Rock Creek Parkway to spend the rest of the morning/day at the National Zoo. Why the Zoo? Because some one told me it's all happening at the Zoo!!!

So far we have 5 MINIs, I know there are more of you out there.....

 

So much for a finalized route!!! DC is expecting a major Anti-War Demonstration AND protests at the IMF/World Bank. Considering a re-route through the park and then accross the Memorial Bridge and up the GW Parkway. Then back into DC accross the Chain Bridge or I-66 and then up to the Zoo.

Either that or call the whole thing off.

Plus due to the nice weather from the past few days, the blossoms opened early and now will be 2 to 3 days past peek!
