Is the Black Bread Cafe still in business? I used to go out of my way to eat there - fantastic sandwiches and unbelievable homemade soups!

Yep, it's still in business, though I believe they may be in a different location than you remember depending on how long it's been since you were there.

OK guys, here's my only "problem" with people playing multiple hands... I'm going to be having custom-made cards for this event so I'm only bringing enough for one hand per car, based on the number of people who have signed up (plus some extras for any stragglers who show up the day of the rally). I won't have enough cards on hand if people decide they want to play extra hands that day.

If you want an extra hand for Deli, that's fine.

We went through a pre-run this weekend to check out some road conditions. You can find some photos and other info about the run here: Jim Thorpe Pre-Run Photos

If you're interested in the run and haven't already signed up, give a shout!

Nice shots, Robyn. I particularly like the closer shot of town from up on the hill.

Door Prize Details!!!

OK, I won't go into specifics but there will be several door prizes available. Along with the jumper cable bag, there will be a few prizes provided by Auto Clear Guard (thanks Ryan). I won't give all the details. Gotta leave some surprises.

See you in May!

Well, assuming I haven't got anyone counted twice (anymore) it looks like we're at 28 cars for this run right now.

And here's some more Jim Thorpe trivia to whet your appetite...

It turns out that the Victorian-style Harry Packer mansion in town was actually the inspiration for the Haunted Mansion at Disney World. The original Haunted Mansion at California's Disneyland was deemed "not scary enough" so the architects drew inspiration from the "Gothic spirit and looming 'ready to pounce' quality of the Packer mansion".

Today the mansion is a bed and breakfast with 12 guest rooms, 6 public rooms, Tiffany windows and period furnishings.

I have added a link on my Jim Thorpe Info Page to a very simple map showing the locations of the main attractions in the historic section of the town...

I signed up for PhillyMini ages ago, but haven't been to an event. This sounds like a blast.....Jim Thorpe is a terrific destination.....and I'd like to add to the Nittany Lion contingent. It's 99% that my wife and I will join the caravan. How important are the two-way radios? Where on earth is Hamburg and how do you get there from
I-76? Thanks for the invite.

The 2-way radios are actually quite important. They allow us to keep in contact with each other during the run. The leader will usually call out upcoming turns or warn of pedestrians or other obstructions in the road ahead. I recently went on a run in NYC and one of the cars overheated. That driver was able to let everyone know that he was having trouble and that he was going to have to pull over. If this is your first run and you don't want to invest the 60 or so dollars that radios cost, you might be lucky and be able to borrow a radio from someone else in the group. There are usually a few spares to be had.

If You Want Jim Thorpe Run Merchandise Before Sat., Deadline Is Midnight!!!

A PhillyMINI member attending this rally has graciously offered to place a "group buy" this evening in order to secure delivery of merchandise BEFORE the run on Saturday.

BROWSE MERCHANDISE HERE

If you want to place an order, please e-mail Mike @ herbie_53_guy@yahoo.com NO LATER THAN 11:00 PM, tonight, May 18th. The price displayed for each item will need to be increased by $1 per item to cover 2-day air shipping charges. You may bring cash, check or a money order on Saturday to the rally to pick up your item(s). Just look for Mike, IB/W MCS with "53" meatballs.

Craig,

Glad you enjoyed it. We had a lot of fun putting it together and doing the run yesterday (in between making sure everyone had their poker cards).

Thanks for posting the pics. I wasn't able to really take any yesterday.

Deli, one of these times you and I are finally going to get to meet at one of these events!

Thanks Robyn and Ian and those of you who helped with pre-runs for setting up a great MINI meet!! The day went very smoothly, you guys did a fantastic job! Everything was so well organized, it didn't even feel like 40 cars!

It was great seeing so many familiar faces, not just from our area, but from NY as well! It was also a pleasure meeting new MINI maniacs. Continued Happy Motoring.....
