godzilla changed my oil last...

1 trip to the dealer, $5 in gas (counting a side-trip to the BMW dealer in Norwood to find out they can't sell MINI parts and then on to Commonwealth Ave)
5 quarts of oil, $35 (I complained and got a discount...)
1 oil filter, $20

1 oil catch pan, $10
1 36mm socket $10
1 1/2" drive wrench: $15
5 trips around town: $3

2 scraped knuckles: $0
realizing godzilla changed your oil: priceless.

according to the "hey moron, change your oil" sticker still in my windshield from where I bought the car, godzilla works at the VW dealer in Watertown. Yeah yeah, I bought my car from a VW dealer... it was an auto trader ad!

Thoughts? anyone have an impact wrench?

You're taking a long road to say you couldn't get your drain plug out then?

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, seems a lot of gorillas work at car dealerships - or else they prefer to use an impact wrench on the drain plug, "just to make sure it's tight".....

The good news is, since you're the one doing your oil changes now, you'll never have to deal with this again, and if you do, you'll know who the gorilla is!

Buy an extra drain plug "just in case"....

$20 for an oil filter? Thats a bit steep.

The guys at the dealership where I used to get my car serviced had made the drain plug so tight that I couldnt open it with a breaker bar over the socket wrench. I had to clamp a huge vise grips on it and then use the breaker bar. After that I needed a new plug. Since the free oil changes are over, I do it myself now, as I have always done before the days of free oil changes.

in all seriousness, anyone in the south Boston area have the proper tools (or shop) to free the bolts? I'm hesitant to see what a jiffy lube version of godzilla does to the oil pan.

I just reached under the car while it was still on it's wheels and tried to turn the drain plug by hand (which is how tight it SHOULD be, maybe a tap from a hammer at most) and failed. I then tried the cap and that was equally stuck but had more room with the hammer... got nowhere but scraping some knuckles on the valve cover or the cowl, I forget.
