Feeler: 2004 MCS

I am considering selling my '04 MCS and finding a new nice home for it.

Here is the scoop:

Mileage: 16,800 (As we speak)
Color: Chili Red/White roof
Chrome add ons: Front grille and mirror caps
Union Jack roof decal

Factory equipment:

Black leatherette sport seats
MFSW (2-spoke sport wheel)
Anthracite
AUX input jack
Harmon Kardon stereo
Front fog lights
Trip computer
Rain sensing wipers
Self dimming rearview mirror
Traction Control (ASC)
16" V-spokes (Silver) with original Dunlop SP5000 runflats

Mods: No engine mods, stock as delivered.

Balance of factory warranty and free scheduled maintenance fully transferable to second owner. 24/7/365 Roadside assistance from MINI also included.

Nice clean car. No dings or dents. A few tiny rock chips in the bonnet. Paint is glossy and kept with Zaino since new. Car has not seen the racetrack/autocross circuit ever. Adutl driven by me only. No children or domestic pets.

Asking $23.9K o.b.o.

Thanks.

My loaded 05 mcs cost me almost 29,000 with every factory option availabe plus a few dealer add ons. I got it before the $500 increase in price. While I agree his price may be a little high, he is not too far off! Options cost a lot of coin!

Probably depends on your location and dealer availablity (for new cars). I agree the 24K is kinda high. I have an 04 MCS with the premium package, sport package, cold weather package, rain sensing/ auto dimming mirror and metallic paint and it was 24K new. But I had to wait 5.5 months to get it. If someone really wants a car right now maybe they'll be willing to pay a little extra.

Price slashed! Now more than $500 below MSRP of a comparable new 05, and only 17k miles! This baby won't last long!

I am afraid it might be up for sale for awhile. It must be winter because some cars I think that would sell haven't...IE 03' BRG MCS with 3 packs, 7k miles, and JCW for $25k. IMO, that is a true bargain.

P.S. And it has leather too..

Nothing a new paint couldn't take care of...at that price you probably can give a new paint job that's better the factory one and still come out way ahead of buying a new one....can you feel me..

According to KBB private sale values, this car is worth $23,915 (Excellent condition) and $22,570 in "Good" Condition. but that appraisal does not take into consideration the JCW kit. Does the JCW kit has any significant resale value? I have not seen it listed as an option in most used car appraisal sites.

KBB does not yet have 2004 model year used car values for the MINI, so I ran a private sale appraisal on a 2003 MCS equipped similary to my '04, also with 17K miles. The price for the '03 MCS came out to $22,135 in excellent condition and $20,885 in "Good" condition.

So you could say that my '04 MCS priced at $21,500 is also a pretty good bargain.

Look man, maybe you dont have the invoice for your car so let me help you

ASC is STD (I think) - no cost option
16" wheels are STD on a MCS - no cost option
leatherette is STD - no cost option

your car does not have sport pkg (dsc, 17" wheels or xenons)
so you bought the front fogs alone for $150

your car does not have premium (moonroof, auto AC) so you bought the
MFSW $250 and
OBC("trip computer") $200
your car does not have cold pkg, sat-nav, PDC, aero kit.....etc
rain sensing wipers auto dim mirrors (this was a single option for $195 in 03 when i bought mine...maybe someone can tell me what retail in 04 was on this) $400 for both options for 2005
harmon kardon is $550
aux input - $40
These are 05 prices from miniusa.com not the actual 04 prices which are probably lower especially if wipers/dimmer was stil $195

So your car is not fully loaded! it is a minimaly optioned car that retailed in 04 for around $21490 you are still asking more that you paid for it. I am all for keeping resale values high and more power to you if you can find a daddy with deep pockets for his daughter to buy it. Thats great!

But we know our cars very well in the mini world most of us lost sleep thinking about how to spec our cars....that price is WAY to high

Went to Carmax today... They offered me $21K on the spot for the car

My dealer offered me $19K on a trade-in.

I have 7 days or 300 miles to accept thier offer.

Someone is coming down towards the end of the week to look at it

Car is hot around my neck of the woods... what can I say.

Cooper S is a Cooper S. Moonroof and sport Package may add another $1,500 to the price. Options make the car appealing to the next person, but they are not worth very much in the grand scheme of things.

So what asking price are you suggesting my '04 MCS should go for? $15K?

Around here you can't even put your hands on a 3 year old '02 MCS with 40K miles (Read: Near the end of the warranty) for less than $19K.

I am interested in reading about your price suggestion(s) cos around here you are lucky to get an used '04 MCS for less than $22K and I have seen totally plain ones (Not even cruise control or fogs) advertaised at $23K.

Hmmmmmmm

So you both are saying that my MCS is worth next to nothing because it doesn't have Xenons, big *** 17" wheels, DSC and sunroof?

That is very funny.

Please keep 'em coming.

Oh, you were mentioning that you couldnt find a quote for the JCW kit so I assumed you were talking about for yourself.

The fact of the matter is, you can try to sell your car for whatever you want.... its your car. Another fact is that your car is nearly base model...

Xenons, big *** 17" wheels, DSC and sunroof
These are all pretty expensive options... those 4 things you listed are $2000 roughly (sport pack and sunroof... you have the fogs so I took a bit off of the sport pack price).

People are right when they say they can get a brand new '05 comparably equipped for a only tiny bit more.

Ahhh! but wait!

When you order those options, you pay full retail price for them. Have you ever wonder how well those options hold their resale value?

Sunroof, DSC, Xenons, big wheels are add ons and do not make a huge impact in the driving or performance of the car. However, yes most people are attracted to a car with those options but they are not a must and a Cooper S whether is a plain stock base model or a fully loaded beast, is still a CooperS.

People that KNOW what a Cooper S is all about are not so hung up on the sunroof and the big wheels. They are going after the supercharger and all the goodies that make the MCS such a desirable car, if you will .

My MCS is being priced at least $1,500 below a brand new '05 equipped the same and that is, a pretty fair deal.

Well, im guessing that you have one of the only MCSs in the area if you can sell for that much and have multiple offers.... There are 3 dealerships within 50 miles of me so maybe I see things differently than you. If you can sell for that, power to ya! Good job! Kudos!
