Hey question. ALl you guys that are buying the switches how are you installing them onto your existing rocker panel? I took mine apart today but the toggle switch face plate is sealed. I cant put the new toggle switche though it. I thought once I took it apart it was like a piece that comes right off and I can stick the new toggle switch through.

Did you guys drill a new hole? or how did you cut a new hole to install your new switch?

Drill it

You must drill the hole - it's just shy of 1/2 inch, IIRC. I chose to go slightly smaller and use a rat tail file to enlarge the hole to the correct size. Note that after you drill, the plastic is white around the edges. Upon the advice of a fellow NAMer, I used a black sharpie to color the plastic, which worked perfectly.

Yah, i would drill. Drill it out from the back so taht you dont scratch up the front, and since its an indentation, it will mostly center itself. And then as he said, you have to make some white plastic look black. A sharpie would work, i used a dab of acrylic paint cause it was laying around

good luck

Thanks guys. I managed to get the toggle switch installed this weekend and managed not to crack the face plate. spent a little over an hour...

First I took the face plate out and drilled a small hole with a small drill bit.

Then I went a little larger and drilled a bigger hole. Did this a few times...

Almost done... need to file it down a little and color the white parts with a sharpie...

Poor MINI all taken apart

All done... Not bad... cant tell I drilled the hole.

nice job! For anyone that's doing this mod, you can also buy a reamer from Home Depot's tool section that works great. You just drill one small hole, then use the reamer to make successively larger holes. No need to change bits, and it's perfectly smooth.

I found this one using Google
