Looks like a good product. Anyone had any experience with it ?.

On a side note, the web page for ordering the product appears to be unsecure.

My dealer told me that since so few MINIS will be sold in the US, that the Mini will most likely NOT be stolen for parts, more likely for joyrides. Thoughts?

My car has this anti theft on it. I still have my car so I don't know how it works when it gets stolen!

smurf,
I tend to agree.....
Another thing that I think should be considered is the....
"Engine Immobilizer w/coded driveaway protection.
Which includes a sophisticated system which will only recognize your MINI's key. The security system uses rolling code technology that means every time your key is removed from the ingnition, the code changes. So it's virtually impossible even for thieves using digital scanning devices to succeed by snatching the last code used."

The above was quoted from the MINI USA site.

Nice little feature they've put in there for us.
As a side note..... I've had this on my last two cars (Both Honda's) and had no troubles.
Happy Motoring,
SW

Pros can steal anything if they want it bad enough and with six airbags you can bet at some point a Mini will turn up missing

True.... but... don't forget, more and more cars these days are starting to come with standard or at least optional multi airbags. i.e. the new Accord EX =
6 air bags. So maybe they will pass over ours for the more plentiful Accord.

The plastic key *does* have the electronic security goodies embedded in it.

Neat trick: Open the driver's door, sit in the seat, and hold the rounded end of any of the keys close to the ignition. You'll get the "bing-bing-bing" that lets you know you left your key in the car...

Also, just for giggles, if you pop the battery cover off of the remote key (or the side cover of the non-remote key), you can see the little security dingus. If you use the key without that cover attached, the engine won't start.
