JCW 2008 Jcw
Not enough!
With only a rumored 220bhp, I can't bring myself to want to buy unless I totaled my new JCW factory. You would think MINI would come out with a new version to put the old ones to shame. Besides, I hopefully have a car with the bugs worked out, where as the NEW JCW may have some teething issues. Like all new cars.
keep in mind that is just rumour. Also, a turbo motor has a lot more potential than a SC, although i like the SC better. So the long story short, i will watch the new MK2 closely, the intention is to get a JCW, but if the potential is ther, might as well get a bone stock MK2 S, and soup the hell out of it. Guys like Tuls, will squeze 400hp out of those motors, watch and see
Remember, this is still a 1.6L engine.
It's very easy to extract more cheap power from turbocharged engines, but I can't see this pumping out STi/Evo matching power reliably........and, without AWD, what's the point if you can't put it to the ground easily. I'm hoping they develop a top-of-the-line AWD model

What I get out of that article is that the LOOK is going to be a major difference. "Instantly distinguishable". I kind of like that idea - but could be done well or not. wait and see.

seriously i don't think you want more than 220 or so in a fwd car.. it will torque steer like a mother... if they made it into a awd then ya 220 is not the most i;ve seen.. also remember that a whole lot of hp doesn't mean that much if it doesn't come on until 5000 or 6000 rpms be careful what you wish for.
While I would love to see a 2.0L AWD JCW, I honestly believe that BMW will keep the MINI front wheel drive.
Though I thought I heard something on WRR about a return of Triumph? BMW got it from Rover and held ownership of the name when they bought MINI.

From MINI2
the GP is now being quoted at 230 bhp. Thats with the current SC
the 2008 turbo JCW (Summer, 2007 build) is being quoted at 220 bhp.
Different cars. Different time lines

JCW parts are available on the current Cooper S (R53), from the factory, and makes 210hp.
JCW parts are also going to be available on the GP (also an R53 and still supercharged.) in 230 hp tune that is going to be lighter (approx 40 kg).
John Cooper Works will also develop (probably already started) parts for the Next MINI (R56, which will be turbocharged) to be released in 2007 (that's the release of the R56, not the release of the JCW kit)

just kidding dude.
The only thing I'd add to DiD's post on JCW is that many parts are also available for the current Cooper hardtop (R50), the Cooper Convertible (R52) and the Cooper S Convertible (also R52). His post seemed to imply that JCW stuff is only available for the R53 or the GP special edition. The R53 has definitely been the primary focus of JCW though, since it is the only model that ALL of the JCW catalog is available.
(side note clarification to that - the MCS Convertible also falls under the R52 category - ALL convertibles do)

Also, BMW/MINI was intentions to enter WRC in the near future. So we will most likely see an AWD Mini, it just may not be available for sale.
To muddy the waters further...
John Copper Garages originally offered the Works kit as an add-on, that was then incoporated into the BMW guarantee, then became a factory-fit option.
They now offer the 225bhp HPD kit as the MCS Works GP approaches production.
What odds will people offer me that the GP comes with 225bhp (DIN) as standard?
