The way to go for what?

The originator didnt say he was racing. Per "Randy" and I quote http://store.webbmotorsports.com/ind...in_page=page_3

"You may notice that I didn't recommend installing coilovers. While the ultimate in handling can be had with coilovers, the truth is that they are bigtime overkill for 95% of MINI drivers."

It's definelty more money but it does give you more options for adjustments in the future if you want. The JCW is already $900 plus installation the Billsteins are $1500-1600 so it is a $600-700 premium (assuming equal installation times) but gives you more. But thats just my opinion I may be wrong... Personally I think the stock sports suspension is fine for street driving.

I 2nd that! The 05 sport suspension is enough for daily driving and the occasional weekend autocross.

My 05 suspension is soft as hell with nearly 33,000 miles of hard driving...FYI The car wallows over some highway undulations. Doesn't take a quick set after most.

How about the Koni FSDs with JCW springs? Would be an ideal set up, i guess.

That would be a great setup. Just don't know if they'd sell the JCW springs separate from the kit.

Why would one mix JCW springs with Koni FSD dampers?

Mixing springs and dampers is necessary when buying a spring from one manufacturer - who has not developed a matched damper - or vise versa. The JCW kit is a matched kit.

Presumable the FSD's work with stock spring length and rates. The JCW springs are shorter and heavier...perhaps not by much.

meb, you are right, the idea of marrying the JCW springs with Koni FSDs is to have a little bit lower car. But thinking of more, 10mm drop is barely visual, so dunno if it is worth going the extra mile.
