JCW upgrade

I just got the upgrade for the JCW kit installed last week....anyone else recently? It's bit faster and lots livelier, especially in the mid-range. Money well spent....lol

Remember, JCW owners out there,"It's not about the math, it's about the path" hp/dollar isn't everything

I just did the poor mans JCW upgrade.

And I LIKE it! I wish I had a GTech or something to do some comparisons with.... Without some logging, it's all just butt-dyno, water cooler conjecture! Anyway I think it's smoother, more torque low (but that must be programming, as the old injectors could handle the load at lower revs fine). I did a few pulls, and it seems to scream, but with only one day of driving, it's not enought to tell.

I'm not gonna dump on the Works guys. We're all trying to get more usable power, and there are lots of ways to skin the cat, so to speak.

The reason I say poor mans JCW upgrade is that I have the hot air intake, so I don't need the air box. I have a 15% pully, about the same as the JCW. And I got an MTH map for the new injectors! So the ECU has been reprogrammed. I bought the injectors in an upgrade kit part-out, just about $300 to my door.... Install was 90 min (but I repaired a friends lawnmower at the same time, figure a bit over 30min for the injectors).

I had the JCW Kit installed before I took delivery and this is my first MINI so I have no basis for comparison. Only have ~1150miles on the odometer so I have yet to rev it above 4500rpm. The car has incredible torque at the lower rpms, I'm interested to see what the car does at high rpms .

I almost did the JCW.... but opted for a rather cheaper path... $1300 comapred to ALOT more... but I am definately warranty paranoid but it was worth it. For anyone that is scared of warranty...go for the JCW definately.. I do wish i had that pretty badge though

This is about the upgrade...

It's an ECU flash, the intake and larger 380 cc injectors. This is an upgrade to the original works kit, to give about 10 more hp...

I had my car for a year before I had the JCW kit installed. The kit wasn't available when I oroginally bought the car. The difference was quite dramatic and very enjoyable, have fun

Aha! My bad, I thought the post was about adding the complete kit to a stock MCS.

Thanks Doc.
