F55/F56 Rotors required to be replaced???
Rotors required to be replaced???
Hi all,
I'm not finding concrete info on this, so appreciate the help first and foremost. The car is complaining about the brakes now, and my shop is telling me my rotors HAVE to be replaced on my JCW at the same time as the pads. They haven't seen the car in awhile. There's no way the rotors are worn as I only have 19k miles on my 2017 F56. The shop is wrong about this, right?

Here is my rationalization... If you're paying a shop to do the work, rotors do not NEED to be replaced, but new rotors will help the pads bed in faster. If you're doing the work yourself, the little bit extra you would pay for a decent set of rotor blanks will still net you a lower cost than paying a shop to do just the pads.
By the way, a brake job is one of the easier maintenance tasks that home DIY-ers can perform.

Yep, seen people burn through them due to driving habits, we have you covered with our new v5 rotors. I have the old v4 slotted ECS rotors. https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2017-...raking/Rotors/

If your rotors are still greater than the MIN spec, then they technically can be reused. Personally I replace mine for peace of mind. If you do keep your rotors and only do a pad change, I would strongly suggest giving the pad surface a good scuffing with an abrasive wheel or pad to remove the thin film from the old brake pads. This will give the new pads a 'clean' surface to bed against and prevent potential vibrations due to inconsistent friction around the ring from the old vs new pad material bedded onto the surface. YMMV.
