Is it worth replacing a clutch for $4,000 under NEXT extended warranty
Is it worth replacing a clutch for $4,000 under NEXT extended warranty
Hi to all, I have a 2015 MINI Countryman John Cooper Works along with extended warranty. My clutch was starting to give out so i took it to the nearest MINI dealership to see if it is covered and to be fixed. Was told they would have to take it apart to measure some sort of piece (dont know what it is what they are talking about) to measure this “piece” to see if it is covered under warranty but I would have to risk $2,000 for labor that i might have to pay or not depending if it is covered or not. Just hoping to find advice here. Plus another $2,000 for the part/parts again i might have to pay or not depending on this piece.
Im frustrated... brought my mini still in drivable condition to dealership about three days ago and I went to pick up today to at least drive it back home so I can come up with a second plan but to my surprise the dealership didn't communicate beforehand that it is not drivable anymore (it wont go anymore) so had to tow it back home. Im starting not to trust the dealership...so can anyone confirm that is a total reasonable price?
Is it worth risking it? Or would i be better off selling the vehicle to someone else and transferring the warranty to them?
What is this piece they are talking about, that they need to measure?
Does anyone know what is the worn down criteria for this mystery piece?
Thank you everyone

Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Not an expert here, but, it sure sounds like they want to measure the flywheel thickness and/or run-out (if it had warped). I was just talking to some people at a Mini Dealership yesterday, and the clutch/flywheel interaction is a known weakness in some of these cars. In fact, the finance manager bought one (I think it was a 2011, to help teach his daughter to drive a manual...knowing there is a weakness in some of these cars). Hopefully, an expert familiar with your car will chime in quickly.

What ever happened with this?
Where was the dealer?
I had a similar issue and the dealer ended up paying 100% of the labor and I only paid $1,000 for the new flywheel and clutch pack.
