New to the Mini world.

Hi, my name is Toni and we are purchasing a 2008 Mini Cooper S this weekend. It has 29K miles and the dealer is wanting us to purchase an extended warranty. I've seen some reviews that might warrant such a purchase. Does anyone have on opinion they could share that might help with the decision to extend warranty or not? Thanks so much.

If you don't work on your own car then get the extended maintence. I did not get the extended maintence because I could not see myself needing to do $3k in repairs. Even with the throw out bearing arm breaking they would not have covered it because I had an aftermarket clutch in there. That is just me and I do about 80% of my own work.

Without a doubt get the extended warranty for as long as your wallet can afford. It unfortunately will pay for itself over time. Trust me it will.

Excellent point. We do work on our own cars most of the time. Are Mini's hard to work on? Do you need special tools? Chevrolet and Nissan have been what we have experience with.

If you work on cars you should be fine. Get the Bentley manual. Most tools are standard, unless it is a R53 then there is a few specialty tools.

You also have to consider if you are going to move to aftermarket parts because that could void warranty on specific parts on your car.

Thanks for all the input. I'm thinking no on the warranty. It's an R56. Mods are a part of life here for all vehicles, past and present. They make life fun and exciting. (especially on the curves).

Yeah the R56 has a few speciality tools but, it is for the serious hard jobs. For basic maintence you don't need them.

Having mods DOES NOT void warranty. They can only void it, IF the aftermarket part caused the failure. A CAI won't get you a voided engine warranty.

I'm awaiting info from Fidelity warranty, will read the fine print but rep said upgrades won't hinder policy coverage.

No word from Fidelity but Credit Union has one for 1/2 the cost. Hubby flying to Austin in am to pick up the Mini. I can't wait to see it but will have to wait till Sunday morning for driving. Hmmm. Maybe a little Maroon 5 would be nice since they are here this weekend.

We will. Can purchase up to 50K on odometer, but probably in Aug. when Hubby comes home. There will be no driving our cars this summer.
