Mini GP3 Production

I have been searching the internet for some definitive time that mini will resume production and to the best that I am able to determine it will be the end of May or early June. It is a leap of faith that I assume they will be producing the GP3s at that time as well! It has been a long and twisting road since November of last year when I placed my order and made the deposit on the GP3 and it has been frustrating to say the least. Information is scarce at best and non existent for the most part. It does appear that production will resume either in late May or early June. Once they begin does anyone have any idea of how long it takes to produce one or the daily production capacity? And, how long it takes to ship them from whatever port(s) they use to the USA? I think when we ordered our JCW it took 3 1/2 months to get it. If this holds true for the GP3 it means it will most likely be October before we receive it!

PR sources talking to local and national press suggest 18th May earliest and 'towards the end of May' vaguelly.

Aston Martin and others soft opened recently. With tumbledryhair Boris this could all evaporate tho...

I would fathom a guess that the production rate will be something less than 'full rate'. This is based on the Mfg facility I work at here in the states (not cars, grills). We had to slow down the production rate to separate operators for 'social spacing' and therefore could not maintain the production rates. To compensate we have opened up additional shifts to come close to maintaining the normal daily output. Anywho, when I ordered my F54, the order was placed on 10/31 and the car arrived at the dealership on 12/9, so it was 39 days back during normal production time. Curious as to why your MA can't get you some sort of status update??

My relationship with mini has been erratic at best. I bought my first mini, an R56 JCW from Mini of Louisville in 2012 and loved the little beast and ordered an F 56JCW, my all time favorite funmobile, and I still have it and hope it lasts my lifetime. I followed the hype leading up to the GP3 and thought what a little gem of a beast and ordered one in November with a series of faux pas during the process, but hung in there and thought OK, I am ready for this. Then the long drought began and I became frustrated with the process and mini in general as a corporate entity with bizarre marketing tactics. Mini of Louisville folded and I was #1 on their list for the GP3, so I was out in the cold and went to another dealership and was #2 on their list, but there was an abyss in the process with crossed wires and my order was canceled not once but twice, then I ordered it for the third time. That was in November and then there was the information drought of 2019/2020. Finally, I was advised this month that I was in fact going to receive the option to purchase a GP3. This was made known to me this month, so now the speculation about when I might actually take possession of it is the question. I assume it will be sometime between August and December of 2020! It can't be too soon to suit me, but these are strange times and with the Chinese Corona who knows what is lurking in the shadows!

Boy, what a mess you have on your hands there with the area dealerships and order process. I feel lucky that I have ~6 Mini dealerships within ~1 hour of me and ended up going with the 2nd closest one when ordering due to them giving me the best price. Even though I had an MA change mid-stream, the Sales Mgr made sure I was kept on track throughout the process. Good luck on your GP3 saga and hope it comes to a good ending sooner than later.

Good news! My bet is they will run all the GP3's through at once when they are geared up for it...hopefully it won't be a long wait!

Congratulations, did you receive any advance information about when it would be available? I am a mushroom with a frustrating lack of communication regarding I might expect to receive mine.

It was about the same up until I was told it was at the port and being held there. So lack of communication seems to be a bit of the norm here. The dealer did say there were only 4 that landed in the US in that lot.

My mini dealer called me just a few minutes ago to see if I wanted to bring in my JCW for service! I replied, "I will bring it in when you call me to advise me that my GP3 is there and I will bring the JCW in for service then! At least I had a laugh!

There is a list of where the GP3s are going on facebook, but it does nothing to provide really information about when they will be shipped. It is bizarre where all these tidbits of information originate and how they are gleaned from mini. It really doesn't matter for us realistically with the Chinese Corona Virus pandemic here in the US, there is no really safe place to go here. We are now supposed to carry sterile wipe pads to wipe off the gas pump nozzles before we use them or wear disposable gloves when we pump the gas! Strange and scary times for motoring in the US.

Based upon internet information there are GP3s in the U.S. that are available for sale on various dealer lots throughout the states! If one pops up reasonably close I will go for it and cancel my order which seems to be in eternal limbo if I can make a deal! Minis marketing plan for the GP3 is erratic and unfathomable to mere mortals like me!

Interesting, I just figured they were all ordered/sold already and yet there are definitely GPs for sale now (exact inventory status admittedly isn't super clear)

Definitely call/check with the local dealers. Here's what's happening with me/mine, as an example:

My mini is scheduled to arrive mid August (3 weeks at port was a *****). I was told by my dealership multiple times over the last few months the following:
1) If someone cancels, the GP goes back into a "pool" and redistributed to whatever dealership.
2) If someone cancels, I'm next in line in terms of priority of ownership. As in, I get called first, and if I decline, they go to the next in line.

So, conflicting statements. But wait! It gets better! On Tuesday afternoon, I got an email from my sales guy that said:
We have one here for sale but I’d assume you are going to wait for yours.
WTF?!?! NO! I want it now! So I call my sales guy so I can go buy it that day. He told me it was first come, first served. Again, WTF?!? I cancel meetings and get there as soon as I can. There was another guy already there who ended up buying it out from under me. Here's the rub: HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE GP3 UNTIL HE SAW POG'S VIDEO ON YOUTUBE!!! No deposit, no waiting list, NOTHING. Godammit so much. Wait, it gets even BETTER! He saw the GP for sale online OVER THE WEEKEND!!! He emailed the dealership ON MONDAY. I didn't get my notification until Tuesday!

I let my rep know how pissed I was while the other guy was filling out his paperwork. Anyway, I get another email yesterday that the guy who's GP will be there on the 26th-ish declined the car and it's now mine. We'll see

Moral of the story: Call and/or watch the websites fo the dealerships. You might just get lucky like the guy on Tuesday did.

What a crock! However, I do have some good news. I called my dealership which has been pretty good since the original order fiasco, and the sales manager advised me that mine is at the dock and being loaded sometime soon and that she will advise me when it is shipped. Then I can follow its progress. I still don't have it, can't see or touch it, let alone drive it, but hope springs in my heart that I will get it before I die of old age! It is akin to a perfect storm with one tragic disaster followed yet by another and another. But, I/you have company and we can only hope that we will get them and put them safely in our garages. Hope springs in my carheart! (PUN intended) Good luck with your quest!

I finally made headway today, my dealer sent me 2 packages of goodies today and that was very nice. A small mini tote bag, and other little treasures. I also received my VIN number today, but was unable to get into the Mini Owners Lounge to track it. I called Mini USA gave them my VIN# and they advised me it is still on the dock, but ready to ship.

I have not used the Owners Lounge since I ordered my current mini in 2015. I was able to change and reset my password, but was still unable to login for information. I thought maybe someone on the forum might be able to shed some light on this issue. I called Mini USA, but they were not able to help me with this issue.

I sure hope you are correct, it has been a lengthy and tormenting wait and amid all the pandemic crap this is a ray of sunshine to say the least! Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully, by the time it arrives we will be able to travel. The Tail and the Triangle are singing the Sirens' song!

I hear ya. Makes me glad I didn't want a car that I'd have to order/wait for. I was lucky enough to find what I wanted in the Phoenix area (the only 2020 JCW Clubman in Arizona or New Mexico and it was the color I wanted) and in late April there wasn't much going on at Mini dealerships in general. Here's hoping your car comes in like that guys came in in Scottsdale last week.
