here is one of those drivers, we missed this weekend the 1st trial to let him do some recording. However, he used the time well in his own JCW Coupe

Nicely done!

I wonder what the Porsche driver thought when a MINI Coupe went by it going half again faster than it was going...

I alway thought the Coupe would make the best track car. It was a thought for me to get one when I bought my R56 hatch, but I wanted the extra space the hatch has.

Looks like some of GP3 parts are not in the MINI USA system yet.

Most are still being made and will not be in germany for a month or so.

Can the fine folks at ECSTuning locate the GP3 front strut bar with hood gasket and the rear control arm 4 bolt brace?

We can try, some of the items MINI does not even have in the system. Give me a little time.

They are in the system, but you need a valid VIN.

Thanks, must be different in germany. We dont need any VIN for anything special order anymore. Used to be like that for the GP1 and GP2. We can see inventory levels from BMW group. They might be blocked for USA is what we see all the time.

Maybe need to get a few GP3s on the road here in the US before they release the part numbers?

Yep, they offer up to Europe and Germany first as they get the cars sooner. Then it could be a month or a couple days and they open it up to the US. Its the people in the parts center, i have had to put in request for parts they forgot to unlock(turn on) for Germany and USA. Then they turn them on, some they dont. Because the supplier is not ready or they stage the parts. A lot goes into it.

Stock, pure stock... except for tires... and a few other bits...

The video is 7:50, so if the 7:42 isn’t “official”, it is pretty close.

Love the 2 pictures of the car off the ground...
and the car is quiet, a real sleeper. Except for the graphics.

If that car is stock and does 7:50 or 7:42 and the GP3 does 7:56 why isn't MINI firing the design/engineering dept. or the driver? Am I missing something?

You missed the “except for tires and a few other bits”...

It would have been something if the MINI Coupe was really that good from the factor. I would have bought one, if it was.

Do you know what kind of bits? Don't shoot me folks but a factory GP3 should outperform a "slightly" modified coupe? This is why I stated further back in the thread this car should've mimicked the Renault 5 Turbo (rear mount engine craziness etc) the 80's were the best.

I could only guess what was done to that car, but clearly there was some major work done. What amazed me was how composed and compliant the car seemed to be. Shocks, springs and sway bars were well matched. Pictures show little suspension drop when airborne. Not sure if that means, just something I noted. I also don’t see a helmet or harness, which surprises me.

My guess is that Clutch Wotan knows what was done.

I have a friend who start to build a tube frame, rear mounted engine/transmission MINI out of parts from his R53. Unfortunately the person doing the build work dropped the project and it never got finished. The last I saw it, the main part of the frame was done and suspension was being developed when it was dropped.

You miss one thing, BTG time !

This is a so called Tourist lap You cant do the complete round.
BTG ( bridge to gantry ) is the format you use as a tourist driver. The time measure is from the "bridge" where the video starts to the gantry where the video ends. 8-16 sec have to be added depending on the car, and yes he will be in a GP3 faster, and in a tweaked one even more !

There is one section at the Nordschleife, downhill from "Hohe Acht" to "Schalbenwanz" what separates the girls from the boys, here the JCW Coupe is faster than the Renault record holder :-)

The MINI test-driver showed already a year ago, that the GP3 rocks, that car is a straight level with the limited GOLF Clubsport, and that was for sure the benchmark for MINI.
https://www.facebook.com/f56.shiva/videos/426653901466695/
The ruling boss is a pimped Golf Clubsport https://www.facebook.com/f56.shiva/videos/1119531268247930/ driven by another "kid" , the weight of the Golf 1.100. kgs, the wheels 245/30/19, the driver FIA race driver, and VW engineer Benjamin Leuchter.

Mini Coupe had best frame for track because it was made for a convertible (Roadster) and Coupe of course had a top so if the suspension parts were also aftermarket it would be the best track Mini up through the Gen2 cars. Of course the GP3 is an entirely different car frame/suspension than the Coupe which ceased production with the 2015 model.

NIce! I have been at home and not been out much so keep posting up some pics of it in true form. If you have shots of the engine bay and the under body that would be awesome.

Opps... I should clarify - Not Mine...
I was told these are the first in this country (true? Not sure) and that there is a second one coming in tomorrow. I am very excited for those 2 lucky people in my area who are going to take delivery of these. Actually I was very excited to just get the chance of seeing one in person.

I was at the dealer to drop of one of my MINIs to have a bunch of maintenance done (They are running a 25% labor discount deal) and happened to see it back in their drop-off area.

Now that I have seen it, I kind-of wish I had bought it. People have said that the GP looks better in person than in the pictures and, I have to say, that is true. It is less “overstated” than the pictures make it look like. The red, wheel arches and wing look more like they belong on it. In my mind, this makes the car a great purchase.

Those of you who will be getting a GP3, you are really going to like it.
