How many Gen 1s JCWs are there....??
My question is WHY would they (MINI/BMW) have taken the time to number them if NOBODY keeps records of these numbers ANYWHERE?
Heck... How did they even know to consecutively mark the plates and certificates?
Can anyone on this thread tell me if they know, first hand, that the numbers were recored anywhere but 'sometimes' at the selling dealer that installed the kit...
With the majority of JCW cars with certificates that match the plates that I've seen... rarely have the certificates been filled out... for the 2006 R53's nor the 2006/7/8 R52's with the factory JCW package (even thought there were plenty of these last years that got the 'kit' installed by a dealer.
Most of the 'certificates' i've seen have never been out of their bags nor had the VIN or date assigned to them.
Do the GP1's have the engine tag number on a different kind of certificate as compared to the JCW's??
Crazy
The conversion numbering thing was a tradition started by John Cooper Garages.

And,
the original GP!

This is effectively the data i have been compiling with my website: www.thejcwregister.com
However a lot of the details arent visible by the public as i had quite a few people that didnt want to share their cars info completely publicly, so i have all the details privately and im watching some trends beginning to form, i need a greater sample size in the US ideally with earlier kit numbers as i am trying to locate the first 100 JCWs and see where the kits ended up worldwide.
The build dates arent so much the interesting ones, moreso the kit fitment dates and programming (as noted on the ecu sticker)
Numbers wise, highest kit number on an S i have ever seen was just over S20,000, however it was being sold off the car, the highest kit number known on a proven legitimate car is just over S18000. Most of the high kit numbers are easily tracked by vin however as they mostly came on factory cars.

Number S573 on my 2003. Dealer installed so some don't consider it a true JCW. Unfortunately, there was no certificate when I bought the car. I've verified that it has all of the bits that it should but I'd really like to have a certificate. I need to try to contact the dealer that I think installed the kit to see if they will help with it. MINI USA should help with this, imo.

Bryan ('06 R52 JCW)
Meaning... there is a factory list with VIN and Engine-Plate numbers on it... and it is easy to find??
All sincere questions

Online VIN decoders show what factory options were installed on the car, so the JCW kit is listed there on factory JCW's. But it doesn't list the JCW kit number. They did have to make sure that the certificate number matched the number on the rocker cover plate though, so maybe the kit number was listed somewhere in the car's build sheet at the factory..?
My car (built April 6th 2006) came with a filled JCW certificate (kit S12325). The car was originally sold in Germany, and was first registered on May 2nd 2006, which is the date on the certificate. So the certificate must have been filled at the dealer, and that's why some came blank. Well, of course it could have been filled by the first owner too... but not at the factory anyway.

Mine has been built the 1st of April 2006 and has number S12158
I've been out of touch for a while and need to update my spreadsheet. I appreciate the information y'all have passed. Not in my wildest dreams did I see this thread going on to 12 pages of love, debate, experience, explanation of the JCW.
I think this is about as close as you can get....I don't think Mini or the factory will post the information you seek..... https://redirect.viglink.com/?format...cwregister.com

More pondering time kill this morning by taking the small sample size of JCW's sold on BaT (where # could be discerned) and compiling them in sequential order then running the VIN through bimmer.work to get build date.
Rather interesting results.

put a space after WMW because it automatically made a link which made the list a little illegible because distraction WMWRE33576TN29144

Thanks for all the adds!
Now,
for a bit of trivia.
Recently I read that the JCW exhaust system was made by Birchills Automotive.

Can anyone confirm this?

If you're looking for the illuminated version though, then good luck!
Likely the rarest of all JCW accessories right there, even moreso than the leather dash I'd reckon?
Those pics are from Marco Pietropolli's car...

...think I've already posted his video,
but here it is again anyway:
He has absolutely everything,
even including key ring!
The Recaro's aren't so much hard-to-find as much as hard-to-find-someone-willing-to-send-international.
I see them listed fairly regularly, for $$$ of course, but most sellers ain't too keen on shipping abroad.
There are a good few sets that actually got imported over here by hardcore enthusiasts, but they rarely pop up and when they do it's $$$,
and gotta be superquick to grab 'em too!

I like the 2-tone version best:

:
It's been a while since I've dug deep into the subject, and forget most of the details off-the-top-of-my-head, but do know that there was a few different makers who used that same model of Recaro --- easiest to source over here would be Audi, maybe others too?

Much easier in the UK!
If not Genuine MINI,
then more options:

I have the 2 tone Recaros in my factory 06 JCW, it's the only R53 JCW I have seen for sale in Australia with them fitted. It had been for sale for months, I think the huge k's was putting people off, I'm now up to 256,000 k's and those Recaros are literally the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Lots of country driving and 2,000 km road trips and my back feels great every time. I've even had spinal surgery on my neck and the headrests are perfect (for resting your neck). Mind I do stop every 20 to 30 minutes to do some stretches.
Only issue I've had with them is accidentally knocking the heated seat button on in the middle of summer and couldn't figure out why I was so hot.
If anyone gets the chance to grab a set of these for their daily I highly recommend it.

Personally, I think it's a little crazy that the scuttles fetch such the big bucks,
yes they are rare,
but JAYSUS!

Still,
interested to see where the final hammer price falls.
JCW parts a getting a little crazy. I sold one of the last CF JCW original logo key rings on our site a long time ago.
On my JCW Tube intake top that is nla for the R56+, I got the last one it still has the Cooper Racing logo on it, on the side. I think it was one of the last design parts from the Cooper Garage for the R56 MINI? Or in general
