JCW So...no one in NAM has a Manual transmission yet?
Also twiddling thumbs here.
Re: break-in period. Mechanical wear surfaces [rings and bearings mainly] need operation to mate their surfaces for minimum long-term wear and minimum oil consumption. As for "internet knowledge", the less technical wisdom people have on the topic, the more hysterical they react to it. From the owners perspective, there's little you can do to alter the break-in characteristics, given the engines are already run-in most of the way at the engine assembly plant. Just drive it "normally", however you define that. Theoretically, you want to expose the engine to the full breadth of desired operation during the break-in period, but given you're only in control of perhaps the final few percent of break-in after delivery, whatever you do will make little long-term impact. FYI this advice is really only relevant for current-gen modern TGDI engines almost regardless of brand. If you're building an old school SBC, it's a different topic since they're pretty much archaic.
Re: oil change. Given most of the break-in is at the assembly plant, there is no break-in oil in the engine at delivery. That said, an early 1st interval oil change is a good idea to keep the remaining break-in wear metals in low concentration. What that mileage "should" be is your discretion; I usually go for somewhere between a 1k-5k 1st interval oil change, do a Used Oil Analysis [UOA], then a slightly longer interval, UOA, and go from there.

Based on what you've said, it seems whatever I will throw at it is fine, within reason.
I think I'll probably take it slow for a little while anyways, I've read somewhere below 4500 rpm is ideal. At the moment I usually change gear 2500-4000 rpm, so redlining this MINI-monster is unlikely initially...
Just need to get my hands on the car itself now, and 'normally' drive it!
SO.....I know some of you have your new cars (unfortunately mine is broken right out of the box!).
Lets give the rest of the "waiters" and brief description of the transmission.
- The first gear ratio is different than the MCS, with the extra torque does it feel quicker off the mark.
- What about the "faster than a Porsche from 40 to 70. Does it overtake quickly?
- How's the clutch? Light or heavy?
Any details....don't be shy!!

I can only compare it to my old R53 and I know that's not very relevant. I can state that the car shifts easily, cleanly and quickly. Clutch is light, but I've had no problems adapting when going between my cars. Wish I could provide more feedback, but went on vacation after taking delivery, so I haven't driven it very much.
57% of the JCWS in the US were manual in 2014!!
I wonder what the 2015 numbers will turn out to be.

It works fantastic!
Ryephile,
I have 1 of the 37.
Can you provide a source reference so I can document for future resale?
Thanks.

02fanatic over on the yellow forum got the figures from MINIUSA.
I was at the Lime Rock Tudor race weekend where MINI USA was very well represented, and we had 30 or so brand new JCWs in the corral, I should have checked on them to see how many were manual trans vs autos... the did offer a few for test drives... I was busy watching the race.
Motor on!
Motor on!
Mine is coming off the line tomorrow (sept 9th) looks like I missed that boat for sure. Moonwalk gray with black roof and all the toys.
went with automatic for first time. Test drive convinced me to try it.
Hoping mine got off the boat on Sunday. Waiting to get an estimate of pickup date. Will be happy to write up a brief 2016 JCW 6MT review after my first day's driving including first impressions switching over from a 2008 Factory JCW 6MT.
Papa, Please post pics. I just ordered mine last Saturday; a plain jane JCW with just the HK sound, rear fog lights, chrono pack, comfort access, and alarm.
Checked the shipping site using my VIN and it was marked "Received at Terminal" for departure on Sep 9. Yippee!! Is it here yet?? Although my husband asked the profound question, "If a JCW was built and I wasn't there to see it, does it actually exist?" Haha. I guess that I have to believe it does, since it has a VIN. Lol
Please post some pics in the JCW pic thread when it arrives. I've seen a moonwalk gray/red combo, but not with the black roof. I'll bet it looks sharp.
Is it just my car, or does the clutch engage Really low on the travel? I would guess I lift my foot about an inch and it starts to grab. I know, new clutch and all, but my older MCS didnt do this. I adjusted quickly, but I could see times when shifting very quickly that you may not have the clutch fully disengaged and could put more pressure on the gears or at least the syncros.
That said, I think i am really starting to like this car. I understand why it was done, but 1st gear really does seem pretty short. 2nd gear is awesome. I have to roll up 7 empty garage floors to park at work and I usually do it in 2nd gear. As I turn each corner at a nice safe speed
, and then hit the throttle this guy just shoots up the ramp with a quick "chirp" of the tires.
I have the car for just over a week. 700 miles down so far. Towards the end of the month I am taking a vacation and driving across the US and back on route 50 for 2 weeks. Not sure, I might take route 66 back to the east. It should be fully broken in by then and ready to roll. I have never done that trip and I am really looking forward to it. Mixed feelings on a brand new car with 6000 miles on it though
