JCW Problems lowering 2009 JCW
Problems lowering 2009 JCW
I have a 2009 JCW. I've installed Bilstein PSS10 and KW Variant 2 coilovers without success. The main problem is that at the highest setting for the coilovers, the car is lowered much more than the minimum drop advertised from the manufacturer. I'm looking for about a 1" drop, instead I'm getting about a 2" drop. This is with the coilovers at the highest setting too. The people doing the install are professional mechanics that I've known for over 3 years, so I believe they are fully competent. Has anybody experienced this or have any thoughts?
This is a bit of a convoluted story, but I'll try to keep it simple. The main reason I did not like the 'extra' lowering was due to a vibration during acceleration. The mechanics were dedicated to fixing the vibration. We decided that the PSS10 coilovers were better than the KW Variant 2 coilovers, so all the testing was done with the Bilsteins. We tried so many things to resolve the vibration, such as new half shafts, various new suspension bushings, rebalancing the wheels, etc. However, none of these things fixed the vibration. Finally, we replaced the motor mounts and the vibration went away.
I've had the PSS10s on my JCW for about 4 months and they are absolutely awesome. The cornering performance is insane. Although the car is a little lower than I originally anticipated, I cannot imagine it being higher now. I drive about 100 miles a day in the Washington DC area and the roads are 'ok'. I rarely scrape in the front which really surprises me. It almost seems like I can lower my JCW a bit more without loss of daily drivability. I've attached a picture of my JCW with the PSS10s to show you how much it is lowered.
