2011 JCW Speedometer and Tachometer

One of the things I love about the 2011+ JCWs are the black speedometer and tachometer. I've searched and searched, but can't seem to find where I could get an OEM part to replace the white gauges my 2012 MCSa, that I'll have in a month or two, will have. Any ideas? I asked my dealer, but was told that I had to order a JCW or Hampton to get the black gauges. I honestly don't think they understood my question. A part number would help me greatly.

You either need to take the cluster apart and get a new cover/inlay or you might be able to swap the entire cluster (way expensive).

I'd rather have the entire cluster. The needle base will be black and the needle will work properly.

Not sure what you mean that the need will not work properly.

Here are the two part numbers that might help you. Not sure if they can be ordered other than from the dealer as these have no prices. Some coding might be required too, not sure.

Realoem.com lists prices for the 2010 version gauges. The tach is around $350 and speedo around $630. Figure that the 2011 black JCW costs more, and along with programming would make the total estimated cost around $1500.

White isn't looking so bad any more

Having to remove the needle and put it back can damage the speedometer and/or tachometer. (the unit will never show the correct speed/rpm) That's what I meant by wanting it to work properly. If you buy a whole new unit, you don't have to mess with the needle. I saw the realOEM website, but it's for the 2010 models. The price doesn't bother me too much, you can always sell your white gauges to recoup some of the costs. It'll probably be a year or two before these are easily available. :(

There is not really market for them. They can only be coded to a VIN once. If you install on a different car, they don't work completely right. For tinkering and developing a product, I purchased used R56 tach and speedo from eBay for about $100.

That's lame. I'd still jump on a pair of new black tachometers and speedometers if they were available.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are already available. I ordered a 2011-only part that was backordered for a few months and recently became available. Price listing on realoem is not an indication of availability. Check with a MINI dealer parts department and have them look it up on their system. When a part isn't available yet, they can backorder it and you will be notified when available.

Very true! I believe I am a much better car driver because of my 40+ years on bikes. You become *much* more aware of your surroundings and learn how to avoid trouble and nasty surprises. I can usually predict what another driver is going to do by noticing subtle clues that most car drivers are oblivious of...

^^^ that's Correct. I'm a much better driver for sure.
I'll catch myself looking through the turns driving and never done that before riding.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if it's possible to retrofit the JCW tachometer?

JCw Tach

It is very easy to replace the tach. You should be able to buy the inner parts of the tach ( not the plastic outer holder ) and then replace it. I changed the face on my tac and Speedo to black checker board and it was a pain removing the needles from the speedo and tac. you can order different face plates for both the tac and speedo from one of the vendors on this site.

Thanks but I was wondering because I seen a JCW tach for an awesome deal and don't know if I should budge since I don't know if it possible to swap mine out.
