Wondering what everyone uses for fuel 89, 91, 92+. Owners manual stated 91 is recommended and 89 is the minimum octane.

 

I use 93 in my 2009.

 

Best I can buy always. Not worth chancing with the fillers they are adding to fuels now.

 

Get the highest octane available in your area, 92 octane is the highest in my state.

The cars computer will retard the ignition to allow it to run fine on lower octane fuel, but there is a noticeable reduction in horsepower.

I drove a Cooper S that was just like mine except it had a tankful of regular instead of premium, it just didn't have the pep that mine has.

Use the highest grade you can, no less than 91. Reason for this is should you have any problems with your Mini, you won't give them an excuse to refuse warranty work. Look at it another way 20 cents a gallon more for your 13 gal tank is only 2.60 which is minimal compared to a eng rebuild.

 

I use 93 always.

 

We use 92 in all three of our Mini's. The lower grades just perform as well. As one of the other posts implied, it's not that much more for the better gas. Couldn't agree more.

Thanks to all for the answers 91 octane is the highest available locally with the exception of 92 from BP, which I stopped using a couple years ago because they started blending with 10% ethanol.

Wow have not seen that in a few years, I ended up using 91 seems to run great.

 

Where to you live that ethanol is not used? All gas sold here in Texas has it, and I don't recall seeing any without in any of my out of state trips the last few years. Ethanol, whether good or bad, is here to stay.

 

Iowa Costco has 91 with no corn gas.

 

Ethanol free gas can still be found, but it's getting more difficult and it's usually not in heavily populated metropolitan areas. At least not in Texas where I live.

In Idaho 91 octane is the highest you can normally find, but ethanol free is available in most areas if you look for it at the pure-gas.org website

I am in Australia sorry. I have a 2008 S with the JCW kit and the paper that came with the kit siad you have to use a minimum of 92.
