I just ordered this Retrofit kit that supposedly adds auto-dimming side mirrors:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...81&hg=51&fg=95

It's part number 61120416436 and diagram doesn't show any component details - just a drawing of a box. Not sure what to expect in the box, but for less than $20, my expectation is not too high.

Here's the description, in case the URL above doesn't work:

Only with electrochromatic inside
rearview mirror
or
only in conjunction with
Electrochromatic rearview mirror with
universal remote control (garage door
open)

What yadigme says. I just configured a JCW hardtop and I could get them, but only if I chose the rearview also.

That part number is just a 2-wire cable for the inside mirror and some zip ties. Sadly, nothing to do with dimming side mirrors (the glass of which costs $300 for each side through my dealer).

Has anyone successfully used cable part # 61120416436 (and an electrically dimming rear view mirror) to successfully add this option to a car without autodim rear view? I searched high and low and couldnt find any directions as to which end of the cable connects to the replacement mirror and where exactly the terminals on the other end go. Are there any official instructions?
Thanks!

Ask your MINI dealer for them. They should be able to get it easily. That's where I got mine from. They were for an R56 but I used them for my R60 and it still worked perfectly. If I had a PDF version I would have sent it to you.

Is there a document id number along the bottom margin of the first page? It would read something like: "01 29 2 154 177" with a revision date to the right of it. It would help me ask for the exact same instructions you have.

Thanks Bmrguy03!

Any more recent activity on this idea? I want to get a set of asperhical mirrors but most of the aftermarket is for heated or heated & dimming only. If I'm going to shell out extra I'd like to at least entertain the idea of activating the features at some point in the future...

Here is some more info on this part: part # 61120416436

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/61120416436/

This is used to add the auto dim reviewer mirror ( separate part ) to MINI that's are not wired for it and need the additional cable to the footwell fuse box. R56 and R55 models.

Here is the install PDF , its in german , but you can google translate or look at the pics.

This kit is made for the interior mirror add on.

*For the side mirror in auto dim, you would have to have a two wire feed to each mirror then it would have to feed a signal off of the center auto dim mirror to communicate the sides to dim with the center mirror.

That's all I can think of. Maybe some one is willing to do this mod?

Thanks

Ok, so there's no factory retrofit kit to add heated/dimming mirrors? I already have the dimming rear view mirror, so presumably there's wiring already down in the fuse panel. Wiring that I'd have to tap into for the side mirrors, correct? Or am I going to have to feed wiring all the way back up to the rear view mirror AND the fuse box?

No rush, I'm certainly not going to tackle this until the weather warms up (a lot).

The dealer rep said the folding mirrors use a different cover than the regular ones? Not that it's a huge expense. Is the glass the same between regular and folding side mirrors? I ask because if I'm going to tear everything apart I might as well consider the folding option.

Meanwhile I'll probably just buy the mirrors as heated & dimming, if just to avoid buying them again if/when I upgrade for those options.

Yes, the link was just taken down on another site. When I find another link I will post it up. If anyone has the print off or saved the link in PDF, post it up.

Thanks
