JCW Hood Scoop and Flap
JCW Hood Scoop and Flap
I've got an '06 JCW cabriolet and when checking the fluids this weekend, it dawned on me that there is no flap associated with the hood scoop. I remeber hearing discussion on a flap that opens at a certain RPM and how some people were disabling it and keeping the flap always open.
So, I have a few questions:
If there is a flap, is it located just behind the opening in the hood?
Do 1st Gen JCW cars come with a flap?
If so, when installing the carbon fiber hood scoop, is the flap removed? (My car has the carbon fiber hood scoop.
Thanks much!

And you have to have the JCW intake and take off the top, within which lies the "FLAP" that opens to the back air flow. I did this mod and I love since it seems to free up the blower. Lowers the SC sweet spot to about 3500 rpm, but you can still short shift the MCS (in my case a GP) to keep it mild. BTW while you have it apart replace that paper OEM filter with one of the many after market cloth/oiled filters like K&N or Ultrix etc...I did the K&N RU 3130, easy to find at a good $...no magic bullet just something to not worry about for a long time.
Thanks for the info about the flap. I'll have to search for some threads on making the modification and consider it.
As for K&N, yes, they flow more air than many stock filtering elements. But at a price. 'Ever hold one up to the light and see the size of the holes in the element? Test have shown that the let in much more dirt than factory filters. I used to use one on my ST1100. Then K&N started selling many of their filters with an extra foam outer filter. Why would they do that? Seems that the filters weren't filtering well enough. And to make things worse, the foam ring on the OD of the filter made the bike run like crap.
