JCW 2010 JCW after tint - pics
CHP told me no tint on front windows, if you had an accident and they had to break the windows to get you out they don't break the right way, the pieces of glass stick together with the tint sheet. Safety issue i guess. Still waiting to get the citation in the mail before I remove mine. I talked to a city police officer and he said if I didn't sign anything at the time I got pulled over I didn't get a ticket,so.....still not sure!
I've been hearing it is no tint on the front windows. I also heard that some cars come with a light tint in the front windows already direct from the factory.
Calicoop, if you do get the letter from the CHP, it's a simple procedure to clear things up. You'll have to go to the CHP and show them that the window tint has been removed. I'd keep the tint on the windows until you actually get the letter. Chances are you will get the letter. I'm sure the officer took your license and insurance information.

I thought it would be safer in a crash too but didn't want to argue with him! My sister-in-law was driving so he looked at her license and my insurance and registration not my license, so wait and see I guess!
I got a tint ticket last month, the Trooper was on a power trip, he was giving me careless driving and decided to add the tint ticket....I paid the ticket and kept the tints. I say if you're not required to remove it, then don't. The tints make the car look amazing. I just roll down my windows everytime I see a cop. Local police in my town don't mind it, it's the state troopers I always gotta keep an eye out for.
Got my ticket in the mail today just like the CHP said I would, do I really have to drive 100+miles to go to court? The letter says "please do not contact CHP except to obtain proof of correction if required by notice to appear" Can I just remove it and have it written off with my local CHP? Very confusing the way they word this. To me anyway! First ticket ever! Oh yeah where I was supposed to sign he wrote "owners responsibility" never asked me to sign anything.
Bummer Calicoop.
You can probably go to your local CHP and show them the ticket. I had a fixit ticket like that before. Here is my gripe...
I was going home late one night from grad school. Couple of cops pulled me over thinking I was in a gang or something like that. They had asked me where my driver's license was. I told them it was in my backpack in the trunk. I was wearing scrubs and there are no pockets big enough to put my wallet! Anyways, they wouldn't let me get my own backpack in my own trunk. One was flashing a light in my eyes to divert my attention while the other was checking out my trunk. I really think that was inappropriate or some sort of racial profiling. Once they found out that I had nothing... they still wrote me a cheap *** ticket for not having a front license plate! And this definitely was not the reason they stopped me. They came from behind to pull me over, and not from the front. They did not see the missing plate before they pulled me over. This really pissed me off. C'mon. I'm in grad school. I'm wearing scrubs. They thought I was a bum or some gang banger?!?! That pissed the $h!t out of me. If this would have happened to me now, I know a couple of idiots are losing their jobs (probably save CA some tax money) and my attorney would hassle them until they bled dry.
OK I digress, but I had to get that out... even if it over was 10 years ago.
Anyways, I went to the CHP station nearby and had the front license plate attached to show them that was legitimate. You may want to call your local CHP to see if you can just do that. I'm pretty sure you can. You just need to show an officer that you have remedied the "illegal" tint.
Good luck.

AFAIK if you didn't sign the ticket, it's not legal for them to give it to you. When you sign a ticket you are in effect, promising to appear. Someone in the legal profession please correct me on this if I'm wrong. I would contact one of those free lawyers services and run it by them. This just seems way wrong. I recommend that those who live in California carry with them, a copy of the actual law. If you get pulled over, ask them to show you where it says you can't have window film on the driver's window. AFAIK it's not there in the language. Me thinks it's another copper abusing his power.
I will be removing the tint from the two front windows having it checked off at the local CHP paying $25 fee then I'm going to go have a little lighter tint put back on, reason they say is they can't see if your using a cell phone or have your seatbelt on, my friend just got pulled over and warned for her tint too, she had to promise to take it off, way nicer CHP than mine!
And I tinted the sunroof glass. I hate the sunroof without a solid cover.

The film maintains a degree of integrity during an accident, esp a side impact and when EMS uses the glass breaker. The film they say is "bad", actually keeps the shards of glass from flying into your eyes and the interior of the car. Not good if you have to shimmy your way across to another seat full of razor sharp diamonds or want to be able to see to extracate yourself out of your car in the middle of no where...............
Whomever said that was fed bad info.
They have nothing better to do, that's why I can't respect an officer who profiles a car.
Tint tickets in Jersey are $60, yours should be similar. We don't have the option to fix it, you just pay the fine and get it over with.

Really? What kind of additional penalities? That's rediculous.
