I looked on the Dinan site, for example, and a simple chip for a BMW that cranks out as much HP boost as a JCW kit is a mere couple of hundred dolalrs, not the thousand$ it takes for a JCW kit.

Why are Minis so hard to hop up??

Its Mini parts, Maxi markup.

JCW stage 1 has a tune, exhaust and air intake with a warranty.

Ding ding ding. Keeping warranty in tact is where oh so much of the cost is. You are also paying for the brand, just like you can buy a pair of Nikes for $90, or you can goto Payless and get some equal quality tennis shoes for $14.99
