How are they adjustable. Can they be moved in/out easily (like by loosening a set screw)?

Maybe the kit version is different from the factory JCW.

No problem at all.

I got the recall notice in December and when I took my 2009 JCW over and had it inspected I was happy to be informed that it did not have to be modified because the tips did not stick out far enough to be a hazard.
I got the recall at the same time to have my front rotors inspected. They did need to be replaced and that was done. My car was purchased the last day of October.

If you have the engraved logo tips, they are easily adjusted by a screw towards the back of them.

I know the factory JCW is slightly different than the stage one JCW kit, but I believe the tips are the same. That being said, I have not looked underneath an 09 to confirm, but I would assume so.

Note, that all R56 owners would have received the recall notice. The stock S tips are part of the actual pipe

I received my recall notice last week, at which point I called the dealer. The dealer informed me that the JCW stage 1 kit is included in the recall. I then called MINI directly to verify, and they confirmed that cars that have been upgraded with the JCW kit are included in the mandatory recall. :(

I'm booked in this Thursday for the update, and I will insist they let me keep the 'old' JCW tips when they are finished.

Not sure why you were told this. I was at my dealer no more than a week before I posted that, and they confirmed the recall was for standard S exhaust only.

Motoringfile even stated they were not part (granted they mis-typed neither as either). However if you read the comments, there are plenty of people saying the same thing, that their MA has confirmed that the JCW packages are not part of the recall.

In addition, a recall of adjustable tips is just silly. There is nothing stopping someone from changing them back once they get home. Otherwise, I will be playing a constant game of back and forth with my Mini shop!

I would fight the good fight on this one if I were you.

I've been to the dealer in the past couple weeks for an unrelated install and they didn't mess with my pipes. It sounds like your dealer is misinformed or trying to pull something with BMW to get the $$$ for the repair.

Well, I called the dealer again, and spoke with someone who was a little more helpful. He read me a part of the information they have available in the computer, which states that Cooper S models with the "dealer installed John Cooper Works kit" may only need to be inspected since the exhaust location has already been dealt with, and the exhaust tips are "welded in place". Sounds like the service bulletin has mixed up the JCW kit exhaust with the 'factory' JCW exhaust. Oh, well. At any rate, the service guy is fairly certain all he will have to do is visually inspect the tips and I'll be on my way.

again to add. Was just at the dealer and the SA manager reiterated that the JCW stage 1 kit exhaust is NOT under the recall.

Well, I took my car in on Thursday, and they inspected the exhaust tips (as per the bulletin), and sent me on my way.

JCW Tips Part Deux

If anybody has the old R56 JCW tips with the R53 JCW logo and want to sell them cause you are getting the new JCW tips, let me know I'll buy them. Looking for the old JCW R56 though not the new ones here:

Do you want my JCW stealth edition tips? It has no JCW logo on it LOL. It's gonna be a collectors item. I'll trade you for any version w/ logo.

If you have an OEM JCW car, they don't touch your tips. They will "officially" check your car though. It's listed on my invoice during my last state inspection (PA) and maintenance visit. Let me know if you need the job #
