The sucky part is, it's not like they're having to redesign a crapload of parts just because it's an automatic. It's merely some changes in the programming like fuel tables, timing, etc, etc. It'll pass emissions for normal states, it won't pass CA emissions and therefore they won't release it at all.

I think it sucks that they are so close and then decided to give it up. The two or three people that managed to sneak a JCW kit for their automatic really got lucky.

Keep an eye on www.giacusa.com. They make the most potent ECU reflashes for Porsche, VW/Audi, as well as the R53 Coopers. It's only a matter of time before they have R56 software out, if you email them they'd probably be able to offer you a timeframe.

Thanks but I won't hold my breath. They made a post on here in FEB. and almost 6 months later.... NOTHING.

I can't believe that with the '09s coming out making the R56 3 model years old that NO ONE has come out with anything for it.

The only one I know is unichip and it seems to be going by the wayside with too many issues.

I wish someone would come up with something.

Mark

EDIT: Oh yeah, I take it back. AC Schnitzer has a 226 WHP kit (cold air intake, exhaust and tune) for 13000 dollars.

Flippant quotes aside, my SA told me it was an emissions issue, not the tranny, that the Aisin is more than durable enough to well hold up to the extra 17 hp and 20 or so f/lb of torque. This is a bummer of HUGE proportions--here im ready to spend the $$ for a little JCW fun and I get shot down.

Well they already have the software developed, I would assume they are just ironing out final reliability issues before a public release. Their software always pushes the performance envelope to the max, they boosted the WTQ on my 1.8T GTI from ~170 WTQ stock to over 290 ft-lbs with a turboback, their software, and 100 octane.

I hope you're right. I find it annoying that it's taken so long for anyone to come up with anything.

Actually it is aftermarket that pushes the performance envelope further than OEM, and this has been the case for both MINI and BMW. An OEM is constrained to creating a single tune that must run reliably for years on many thousands of cars, and under extreme conditions worldwide. Independent tuners can start with a JCW or M car and take it much further.

Isn't the stage 1 JCW automatic available in other parts of the world, just not the US? That's what happened with the R53 JCW tuning kit for automatics. It was an emissions issue and my guess is that they could have solved it but they did not think there would be enough sales to justify it. It could be the same case with the R56.

I think the auto JCW is available in markets OTHER than the US. There have been postings on mini2 regarding JCW 1 kits on auto trans R56s.

I know. I was referring to the aftermarket company GIAC as being the ones that pushed the envelope, noticeably more than OEM and even more than competing aftermarket companies.

builds "prior" to 7/08? that would leave out all the 09s WTF?

Since I had inquired about this option over the last few weeks and always being denied (I was told CA emissions), my MA called me tues as I was camping in the middle of Wyoming nowhere to inform me that I can NOW get the JCW S1 for my 9/08 build 2009 MCSa-- little confused here... I dont know to beleive, Motoringfile or my MA....

I'll leave the sig the way it is...

The MF article says that an "updated kit with a modified exhaust mount will be released for newer cars later in 2008."

uh, I talked to one of my SA's and he said the kit is available for all auto MCSs *now,* 08s and for the 09s when they first arrive at the dealer in early-mid oct, that the "prior to 7/08" statement was incorrect (due to leaving out the last 4-5 weeks of 2008 model production), that by the time my 2009 arrives at the dealer (early nov) there will be a complete S1 tune kit available for the car, exhaust bracket included.

so he must know something MF does not, which wouldnt be the first time...
