JCW Do not buy the JCW Aero Wing!!
Their should be some sealant to prevent moisture/water from getting to the holes in the boot top where the studs go through .... otherwise it probably will start to rust. The R53 and R50 stock spoilers also use 3M trim tape. ACE Hardware sells clear Lexcel sealant which is really good stuff.
I've had my '08 for 7 days. I installed the JCW wing in my garage to save on paying dealer something I can do. After 6 days the wing is off, boxed and ready to return to the dealer. I am lucky enough to have a very understanding dealership. At first they didn't want to take it back but after a little discussion, they agreed to give me full credit.
I'm thinking I'll try the AERO Spoiler.

Well I did what you did at first. Sealant was needed to fix my problem.
This defect has been corrected on the new spoilers. There isn't a gap anymore.
How did you find out? I've been considering the JCW....but holding off due to the noise complaints.
I had an 07 jcw spoiler on a previous car and now have a spoiler I just got with my new car. There is not a seam anymore on the cf part at the point it meets the pedestals. On the previous model it was very distinctive and was where the silicone was applied as a fix. I don't notice any noise.
Have we figured out what sealant was used?
I have a Justacooper lip being painted this week, and will be swapping out my MCS spoiler for the lip. Would love to know what sealant they put on there for you, so that I can avoid the rust.
Also, I'll have an R56 S spoiler for sale in black, if anyone is interested

my R56 JCW wing whistles at much higher speed
100 mph, and it's not really a whistle but more of a howl when it finally does. Great reminder that car is going too fast if experienced on the highway. I've also noticed that the dual pane sunroof can be used to encourage a whistle at speeds lower than that, when propped in the both-windows-tilted position.
Just to clarify, was the sealant applied to the underside of the entire unit? Ie, was the whole unit resonating because it is bolted on. If that's the case it would make sense that adding silicone around the whole mating surface could help to remove that resonant vibration. I seem to remember there being a foam gasket or some other dampening component in the design already.

So I have the JCW wing on my R56, first one in Indiana, and our dealership didnt know anything of it, at first with my good hearing at 20 y/o I thought it was an air leak in the car then quickly realized it was the wing....so i found the CHEAPEST and EASIEST solution....Windows down, Radio up, and drive a little faster(if you feel the urge)
but def. LOVE it and WOULD recommend!

So I added the JCW spoiler to Louise on Tuesday. Drive the 40 miles from the dealer back to work in a driving rain and no noise until I exit the interstate. Thought it was unrelated but the rain had let up.
From Leaving work Tuesday evening until this afternoon nothing but a loud unbearable whistling noise.
After toubleshooting the screaming whistle I discovered, with the help of a friend, a small seam on the leading edge of the spoiler wing. Filled said seam with clear RTV and now blissful quietness at all speeds.
See if this fix works for you!
