And does anyone know how these miniature connectors work? I have never seen these types of connectors before. Just looking at the design, u strip the wires, lay one wire in one metal channel, and the other wire in the other metal channel? and then fold over smaller piece to act as a cap?

Yeah thatspretty much it, I had abunch on hand that are a little thinner and longer so it was easier to fit those into the harness, and those are made to self tap into the wire, but if you have weak signal connection issues thats the first place to look to make sure they have a good tap/connection.

Those scotchlock connectors are pretty much junk IMO.. They corrode, and damage the wire on installation anyways.. Strip, solder, heat shrink.. Repeat as needed...

Hey folks! We should (not saying we did) have included some connectors to replace those crappy scotch locks. (BTW: BMW supplies it with those! Yikes!) They totally stink.

Check the package for a set of blue connectors that crimp over the wire. Then you plug the male connector into it. That is what I did on my personal cars. If those are missing, my apologies. Let me know!

Not a fan of anything that just pierces a wire. Weakens it, breaks strands which technically could affect load carrying ability, and exposes the wire to corrosion.. Splice, solder, heat shrink

As it turns-out, the OEM top plate with the Boost/Volt gauges is curved far too much to match the shift light indicator pod.

If I was to install them, there would be large gaps on the front and sides of the pod and that would just drive me nuts.

So my loss will be someone elses gain. Check-out the Marketplace shortly for a good deal.

Has anyone successfully cut/spliced/soldered this?

I just got it in for my B-day and want to cut the wire running to the lights themselves, drill a hole in the mounting plate, snake the wire through and resolder the wires (looks like there are 6 of them). That way the wire isn't visible on the steering column. then I want to solder into the wires on the car rather than using the connectors.

Just wondering if anyone else did this. I hate hacking things up before I even get to use them.

Well I put it in today. Didn't bother to cut and solder when I realized how little wire shows. I also just used the connectors given rather than solder into the obdII wires. I had to fight with that for 2 hours to get it off so I could put the connectors on... but I finally got it finished...

and I have to say this thing is AWESOME! Cudos to Alta for figuring it out . I think I'm going to get more speeding tickets now though

And that middle green light is BRIGHT!

I do have an OBDII device (Dashdyno SPD) that is constantly pluged in.
Is it stil possible to install the shift indicator???
sorry for the strange question...

has anyone looked to see if its possible to change the color of the lights? that green light that stays on constantly is really annoying. it needs to be more dim, or better yet....red or blue so it would match all my other lights!

snypr: there is a button on the lamp strip that turns off the green light but leaves on the other. It looks like a tab!

BTW, let me know if you want me to move this thread out of GP talk into the regular JCW talk, now that the forum exists (since this isn't really a "GP only" mod, but a JCW mod).

Yeah it is a tough one! It fits on ALL 02-08 R53 /R52 with my updated instructions.

But you are a MOD, maybe lets make the decision up to you!
