JCW Stage 1 Kit

Just noticed on motoringfile that MiniUSA will offer this JCW S1 Kit in July. What do you all think of it? $2100 plus probably a couple $300 for install seems a bit pricey. Guess the benefits would be from the warranty coverage, but one probably could put together this kit by themselves: $795 for Alta Cat-Back, $50 for K&N CAI (home-brew), and a flash ($600?) and have the same power increase.

Also, by calling this kit the Stage 1, is there to be further "Stages" as in larger turbos, IC mods, etc?

Uno mas: 192bhp as quoted for the Stage 1. I assume that is at the crank, as quoted by Mini?

I wonder if they will let you do just the flash?

I think I'd like to know more about the power curve...if it involves more low end and resulting torque steer, I doubt I'd consider it. But if it's a thicker mid-range and top end, it'll be great.

As far as pricing, it's a blatant ripoff. Not only will aftermarket parts be cheaper, but at this point everybody in the market for these parts just spent money for the same parts (that are now useless) in the cars they just took delivery of. Waste of natural resources, but profitable for BMW/Mini.

Mod your car via the aftermarket route, take it to the dealer and see your warranty get flushed down the toilet.

Don't bother quoting the M-M Act, we've long proven it's worthlessness on this forum.

So the infamous DMF problem rears its head in your new R56 and the dealer won't fix it because of your mods. Congratulations, you are now out $2K.

Still think the JCW is a rip-off? Keeping your warranty intact has alot of value. Some of us found that out the hard way.
