Euro Shelf Install Question

I bought the Euro shelf from Moss Mini and I am trying to remove the old one on my '06 MCS. There are three places on the factory shelf where it is attached to the dash which can be seen after the panel it snapped off the top two studs. Once down the two outside "hinges" easily lift off, but the center one does not want to come loose. This seems to be a fragile thin piece of plastic that holds this in place and I don't want to crack it by pulling on it too hard. Any tips for removal??? Thanks!

Very carefully. Not meant to be funny, but just try rocking a little left or right and it should pop off. I had mine off several times for different mods b4 I got the euro shelf so it's not that fragile. Good luck.

The two bottom outside hinges go in the same direction; the middle hinge goes in the opposite direction.

When you finally get the knee bolster off, I recommend using some JB Weld to hold the blue nut/bushing to hold it in place. (This is the one to the right of the steering column.)

Good luck!

We just put one in my MINI on Thursday night, and rocking it back and forth, finally pulled it loose. I guess I should have looked on NAM first, to find out about the JB Weld, because those little blue nut bushing things popped off about 50 times... a real pain. But the shelf looks great now...

You have to remove the knee bolster? The directions of course don't mention that. I can see how the center hinge may go in the opposite direction as it seems to be "hooked." I'll try again tomorrow.

WHY is it that the small jobs always seem to be a pain in the butt???!!!

The "knee bolster" is the part that you're replacing with the euro parcel shelf.

Gotcha. It's been a long week. Nothing has been going right for me, not even this simple install. I need a break. Looking forward to taking off to the Dragon!

I got it through Moss Mini. They have a BONUS sale on right now where you get some free stuff with each level of purchase. They didn't tell me about it when I ordered the shelf but they offered to send me something off the "free" list. Kinda takes the sting out of the price paid for the shelf.

We have them on both of our cars. I got them right before the prices went through the roof, but honestly, my wife and I like the EPS so much that I'd probably still get it at the current price.

Honestly, you can get away with not screwing in the one on the right side of the steering wheel. I got so friggin' frustrated putting mine in I just said "F-it, if it falls down, it falls down."

Well it's still hanging good.

Ditto what ashboomstick said.
I've had my parcel shelf off 20+ times for various electronics installs, and after the tenth time or so I just decided to leave that screw (right of steering wheel) out.
No issues yet.

Note: be aware of the little tab on the left side by the cutout. Mine always seems to bend vs. going into the little slot made for it.

Funny thing, in my first attempt to remove the bolster this morning, it pretty much fell out by itself. What the heck?! Yesterday this thing wouldn't even budge from the center hinge! Thanks for everyone's help!

That's the way it always works, isn't it?

I'm getting ready to install my new (to me) EPS and don't want to screw it up (pun intended ). The referenced link to the OM instructions is inactive; suspect that the guidance disappeared shortly after the product was dropped from their inventory.

Does anyone have a copy of EPS installation instructions squirreled away somewhere? Or know of an alternate source? Or maybe it's straightforward enough that it can be done intuitively?

Many thanks.

I used the photo instructions referenced by gnatster when I installed mine 2 weeks ago. As I recall, the only problem I had was with the center hinge. There was no mention of it anywhere on that page, so it was a surprise.

Mine stayed on very stubbornly, until I used more force that I expected, then it popped off. I don't remember in which direction I was tugging, since I was trying everything to get it off. The ABS plastic hinge is pretty study. I don't think it will break easily.

Once the bolster is removed, the install of the shelf is simple. As mentioned above, you might want to secure the blue screw receivers to the dash so they don't move out of position. I used a little tape.

If you don't have the aux input installed, and you have an mp3 player, you might want to install it in the back of the shelf. Others have put another 12v outlet there too.

cheers,
bonmot
