HELP: Roof Rack Mount Caps

Mine tend to get bored from being on car to long and decide to fly off. Has anyone modified their caps to stay on longer with velcro or some other means?

I decided just to leave my rack on all of the time. I can imagine a layer of industrial velcro between the attachment points might work pretty well.

I've found that they are definitely directional in fitting to the posts. I slide mine on from the front of the posts toward the back and have not had a rogue escape yet. I do use a touchless car wash so they aren't pounded by the spinning gizmos.

That being said, my caps are white and do yellow over time. I've replaced them twice over the last 3.5 years. Perhaps having new ones has ensured a tight fit.

I too have replaced mine and even the black ones tend to fade. I hand wash all the time, never drive through.

They are uber-cheap to repalce from Classic or Sterling MINI. They can send you as many as you want. I think I have like a dozen lying around the house now! LOL!!

Bump! Bringing this back from the dead. Has anyone found a way to make these stay on better yet? I keep having to replace them before they yellow.

I put a dab of silicone sealant on the inside sides of mine before even installing them - they looked chintzy at best! I had to peel them off yesterday to replace a broken Thule tray, and the silicone came off perfectly cleanly; it not only peeled off the rack just fine, but the dabs themselves cleaned off the insides of the caps just fine, too.

Good idea! I'll have to try this next time.
