Yes My Tow Ring is Functional
For those who thought the Autotecknic tow ring:

is just bling, here it is in action while Bettie is being pulling onto a flat bed after her water pump failed:

I didn't get a shot of her while the ramp was at a 40 degree angle, but the ring did the work the whole time. After using the ring again to unload, it did have some blemishes, but none the less it did the job without an issue.
Highly recommend this product.

I got mine off of eBay for less than their web site as well, seems to be the place to go.
Or buy a can of red rubber tool dip paint at the hardware store for $10 and rubberize the one in your standard OEM kit. I had enough paint left over to do like 6 more hooks and a few various wrentches, screwdrivers and assorted tools with a single can.
PS - the $45 hooks don't look as beefy as the Auto technica ones (see the bolts on the sides) plus they're an additional $15 to ship - HATE when an eBayer rapes you for shipping like that then pays like $2 to actually ship it.

Search for "BMW tow hook" on ebay to find them.

sumwon- great to hear...but you're very brave. wat the heck were you
going to do if the hook snapped while at 40degree angle? your car could've
rolled down like a roller coaster smashing into cars and trees and perhaps
even run over children.
i took my red one off.
too lazy to put it up on for sale...
the reason why i took it off is because i recently put on the
front plate and it looked better without the hook cause the
plate forces you to make your car look symetric.

I was in the car manning the parking brake and clutch in case it did let go. I really wasn't too concerned about it happening, it is a good quality product. On the flip side, I didn't want both of my vehicles out of commision if it did let go and have the MINI slide back and hit my van. Better safe than sorry.
