'07 Gear Shift **** on an '05?

Got a question for you guys, does anyone know for sure that an '07 gear shift **** could be used as a replacement on say an '05 (Manual of course)? I was at my dealership and asked this question, mostly because I like the look of the '07 shift ****. One sales guy insisted that it did, and another insisted just the opposite. Salesman #1 claimed nothing changed in how the **** goes on, and #2 insisted '06 and previous were threaded whereas the '07 uses a 'jesus clip'. Needless to say it was a hilariously heated discussion for such a off-handed question from me. Granted, it would have been simplest just to try and find out but they were close to closing and I was getting my car back from repair. So, anyone tried this or know for sure?

Doug Whalen said he has to redesign his shift ***** to fit the '07 models because of a change in the design, so I'd say no, it won't fit.
