Color Question

Quick question...

Does anybody know offhand the specific name of the color of the top on a Indi Blue/(Black) top Mini Cooper S? I got the car in 2003 if that helps.

Basically, wondering if it would be Jet Black or Cosmos Black. Looking to paint a small add-on hopefully to match the top and the dual stripes.

Thanks,

Matt

Edit: For clarity, bottom is Indi Blue, sills up is black.

Roof/trim color is pure black. Has nothing to do with available colors.
HTH, should make painting easier.

Would Jet Black be the most comparable then? Part comes primed, and would need to have it painted.

Thanks for the quick response ,

Yes, Jet Black would be the closest of the to.

The top is non-metallic.

Astro/Cosmo Black is metallic, however Jet Black is pure black with no metallic flake. The paint code is 668 for Jet Black, if I remember correctly.

SW paint codes

these are the codes that come up on the Sherwin-Williams formula computers for the 'top' paint

http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/fo...er=&dm=0&cds=1

I've used these code to paint some accessories (like scoops) for some locals...

do note however that when there is more than one formula number for a color code - this means that the formula changed altho the code stayed the same. In other words...there's more than one shade . In cases like this one often needs to go to a supplier with the vehicle and use the 'chip book'... In one case I had a paint that hd six formulas for one code. We ended up with 5 people in the parking lot voting on the best match! Sometimes the computer can give the date the form' was used....sometimes the VIN range.

In this case - if you are not doing a 'match' or a blend - but a part that is actually a bit away....minor changes really won't matter in most cases. i.e. I painted a 'scoop' which came a black plastic needing sanding, prime paint and clear. To my eye the match wasn't perfect (possibly aging of the roof paint), but the scoop is several feet away and to 99.9% of the world looks perfect....

the OEM code can be used with various suppliers of auto paint - rattle cans or bulk - the formula is SW specific tho....
