hood scoop installation

Just installed a Palo Uber hood scoop on my '06 MCS. The instructions say to discard the pastic under-hood cover as it will affect the air flow. My concern is that by leaving off this cover, with its foam ring that encircles the intercooler, the spark plug wires will are exposed and may get wet while driving in the rain. Does anyone have any insight as to whethter this may be a problem?

You can always put a foam seal on the IC diverter, to seal it off.

we tested the scoop in london for five months before bringing the uber scoop to the states...we experienced the usuall grey with sudden downbursts without any problems. remember when stationary no incoming moisture, and when under way the rain evaporates with the heat from the motor etc. so don,t worry as we did not have any problems to date.....bryce smythson, managing director, palo uber mini, london

The 'big gulp' scoop you've installed isn't going to do as much good as it could if you let all the extra air go to waste by going around your IC instead of through it. I suggest getting some foam weatherstripping and McGuyvering up a new divertor. There are some pics of my not very sightly, but functional foam air divertor in my gallery.

getting the plugs wet would not be that much of a problem, but not having the seal there would let all that air your new bonnet scoop is grabbing go right out the back. i would make a seat, trim your stock seal, or one way i found that is both very easy and good looking is to add am Alta Air Diverter. it seals the the bonnet and looks good with the bonnet open. i recommend this to anyone that added the M7 Ram Air Scoop as i then makes it a bolt on item and will not require any fab work.
