For all those with laptops w/wireless cards, do you guys know if there's any way to hook up an internet connection in the car. Like an Airport or some type of DSL service through your car? I remember Ricochet used to do something like that. Help please.

well, you can wardrive if you get a large enough antenna and you live in an urban area, basically hitch a network. Or you can pay for a cell modem and use it. Sprint offers some, also T-mobile with Qualcomm phones. Ricochet is dead.

I'm kinda in the business, so if I hear anything, I'll post.

I have t-mobile. Are you talking about T-Zones? If so, how fast is the internet connection?

This is from their site:

"The T-Mobile Internet AC750 PC card has theoretically a maximum data rate of 56 kbps, but actual user throughput will likely be 30-40 kbps."

Basically like a 56K modem. Dial-up. You're better off wardriving..

Get net-stumbler on your laptop or Pocket PC and drive around with a wireless NIC.

War driving is driving around searching for wireless networks with no security that you can use. Net stumbler is a windozerr utility that tell you the strength of the networks you find as war driving. This is only usefull in communities with widespread wireless networks.

I've seen people doing this in the city, and it makes them drive like
they're talking on about fifteen cellphones at the same time

Nice to see people using Wireless, is not just me
I use ATT Wireless as I work for them, but do use bluetooth as well for my headset and internet connection (40k)

Wi-Fi (802.11) might be an option, with hotspots in hotels, airports and starbucks, etc. but coverage IN your car might be tricky as they put the antenna's inside. "war driving" similar to War- Chalking just in a car is all.

What do you want to do with that connection?
