it was a little tricky as the connectors on the back of the old lights differ to the new ones. also the new ones are far deeper than the old ones meaning i had to cut a lot of the plastic away from the inside of the tailgate handle.

what you will need to do is purchase two of the bmw units, two pin connectors (the dealer can advise part number), have a sharp stanley knife to hand, a tube of clear silicon and some black tape.

The good thing with these leds I found is that they are not polarised so there is no + and - terminals (unless I just got lucky first time with the wiring).

You will need to wire up the new pins to the old wires by cutting off the existing connectors and then bend them into place carefully as there is not much room for movement inside the narrow tailgate handle of the mini.

All in all once you have taken the bits apart you will see what I mean. It will take about 1hr to do it carefully but well worth the results.

Do you have any kinda part number or details on the parts? i dont mind hacking a bit but those have a very OEM look to them and i think im going to go that route too.

part no is 63 26 7 193 293

or your local bmw dealer will just order them for you. i paid £17 for both... may be a bit dearer now due to the strength of the euro, but i love the subtlety to the mod and dont make the car look tacky at all.

let us know how u get on.

I'm interested in adding the bmw LED lights, but I don't want to mess up the cutting of my trunk handle. I'm surprised none of the vendors have come out with a solution.

I know this is an old thread, but I just recently replaced by bulbs with the 39mm xenon bulbs from autolumination.com.
Xizor & FD3SDriver, did either of you have trouble putting the lenses back on when you put the new bulbs in?
I have a 2006 MCS and it seems like my bulbs should have been 36mm but I was able to get the 39mm to fit into the clips. My only trouble is that it seems like the lenses just don't want to go back on. I think the glass from the bulbs may be sticking out too far.
Anyone else run into this???

I have a 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman S which uses 194 type LED's. I tried many different types and I ended up going with v-led's 2W HID white 4 LED HP M-SMT Flank. Very nice, bright white with very little blue hues to it. They have 4 LEDs on one side which shine down over the license plate.

i got LED license plate light. no resistors added, no flickering, staying on after turned of, or bulb out warnings at all. they are blue, and also got a blue LED interior as well.
