I wonder if it would be better for those of us who dont run plate frames? It looks like a little if being blocked by the frame?

still wish that it gave full coverage though

If they can see your garage, I'm gonna guess they know where you live

I have a couple of extra LED festoons and decided to try them for my license plate. I got the same dark dead spot in the middle. So I put back the stock bulbs to compare, and guess what? Same dead spot, although less obvious because the bulbs are not as bright and the color is softer. Without an extra light, I think the center dead spot is inevitable because of how the license plate and lights are positioned relative to each other.

this thread inspired me to change my out my license plate lights, but after reading other threads I decided against going the LED route, adding a resistor was too much of a hassle. Instead I just purchased 39mm festoon bulbs from autolumination.com. Not quite as focused as LEDs, but I'm happy enough for $10 spent.

Those look alot whiter than the standard halogens, what are they? I just got told tonight by an officer (under friendly terms) that my license plate lights were too blue, and considered illegal.

Or if you dont want to mess with resistors in such a small working space you could get the Super White filiment bulbs. Towards the bottom of the page.

Edit: Hmmm maybe I should read every previous post before making a post of my own. I didn't see that Xizor said the same thing as me.

No one knows yet, Mario, it is undiscovered territory, i was going to try the same 1K Ohm resistor i used for the boot light mod and see if that works the only issue now is where to put it, cause it seems the light and the boot latch release button share some wiring. Mine only seems to blink when the interior lights are on. I have gotten used to it. Some of my friends like it and wish theres flashed like that, it looks sorta like a courtesy light when you disarm the alarm.

Sorry to start this thread up again but I just did my LEDs and they flicker/strobe when the driving lights are OFF, when they are on, it's fine... This happens only when the car hasn't been locked by the keyless entry...

Anyone find a cure for this since this thread?

Thanks!

only solution is to add a resistor. it happens because leds require such little power to light, that the small current traveling through the wires is enough to slightly light the led. Mine will come on if someone uses another car's keyless entry in the vicinity of my car...how weird is that?

while this thread is alive again, does anyone know the size of the festoon that lights up the interior boot cabin?

Thanks for the response. I thought there was a problem with using a resistor... Anyone actually do this? What size resistor? Any pics or instructions on how to accomplish this?

The interior boot and dome light all use 39mm festoon... I did those as well and they look great...

I was hoping my RX330 had the same lights, but it looks like they have a little yellowish tint to them. Bummer.

I went down the route of genuine e92 bmw led number plate lights which i feel look more distinctive than the Lexus items. Also have the oem look that the led replacement bulbs dont have in my opinion. Most are too blue in the flesh.

It was a bit of work hacking out the original boot mechanisim, but then I siliconed the units into place. The units have resistors etc built into the package so no flickering when off.

Look awesome too imo and light the plate evenly due to the unique angling of the leds with the lens.
