Interior/Exterior Problem with scratches on inside door handles?
Here's an easy and IMHO, nice looking fix to prevent the inevitable door scratches that show up on most MINI's interior door pulls. It's also handy to cover up the pulls that are already scratched up. It is much easier than the laquer approach seen in prior threads too. The idea came to me while working on some of our mountain bikes in our garage.
Just get some Lizard Skins, which are stretchy 2mm thick neoprene guards that have Velcro at the edges. (No, they do NOT look like real lizard skins!) They come in black, blue, red, and yellow. Since I have the Anthracite interior, I bought the black ones. They are designed for many bicycle components. For the MINI, the "Super-Jumbo" chainstay guard is just the right size.
Just cut to size, (including the curves if desired), stretch it around the door pull, and Velcro the edges together. Two doors took me less than 1/2 hour to do, and they cost only $8.50 a piece at REI here in the US. You will have to buy two of them for the two doors. I've seen them at major bicycle dealers as well.
You can roll the Velcro edges around to the back side of the door pull to conceal the seam, as well as the white Lizard Skin logo. Or, you can do as I did, and install the Lizard Skin with the underside out. I like the smoother appearance of the underside rather than the textured surface of the top side, but it's a matter of personal taste.
I've only had the car for a few weeks, so I can't vouch for their durability, but I imagine they should hold up quite well, given the function that they were originally designed for. Even when they wear out, it's easy to install new ones anyway.
Their website is http://www.lizardskins.com or 801-785-SKIN. (No, I do not work for them)
