Hella makes several nice looking "Blackout" headlight sets for the overseas market and some LED products. I once asked it they would consider something for the MINI owner but the answer was no. I recently came across this though -

http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell...pgrade_Kit.jsp

So today I dropped them another inquiry. I told them that even if we didn't have the sales numbers that the F-150 does we would definately have a higher percentage of owners looking to customize thier cars! Maybe you guys could start ganging up on them, let them know what we want!

I honestly think those guy are a rip off, they take the OEM housing and just mount LEDs inside it, and then they charge alot for that. Granted im sure it takes alot of work to do, but come on. I think they wanted $250 or something just for sidemarkers.

BTW he finally got a price for the LED tailights £161 + shipping

I agree that it's an insane ripoff price, but ironically the quality is higher by using the OEM housing than if they created their own.

The quality of the housing is higher im sure, but the light output and everything as has been discussed several times around here, isnt nearly as good and the LED arent designed for the housing.

The taillights are now available from Newministuff and Mikey has posted pics:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/exterior/...ome-black.html
The brake and running lights are LED, the turn indicator and backup continue to use standard bulbs.

i think the black ones look more OEM and the chrome look more aftermarket blingy to me. Im still trying to decide which i want to get, the black also look more aggressive to me.

I think the black ones would look really good on darker mini's. Anyone willing to do a quick photoshop on mine just to make sure?

PLEASE

Someone has them on MINI2: http://www.mini2.com/forum/exterior/...il-lights.html

I agree that they look better. The LEDs are arranged in more of a pattern and there is less of an aftermarket look. However in all of these sets the lack of LED turn signals is a big disappointment and keeps me from seriously considering any of them.

Well i think the LED pattern etc are all the same....i just think its a different color from the same company? Atleast that's what i assumed.

yes its the same housing design just a different colored lenses and in the black case a black housing instead of chrome. But i like the black one and the chrome, i also like the red one where the LED is clear, cause thats one of my favorite things is seeing the clear LEDs light up red. The all red one looks just like the Euro lights, but with LEDs, the only advantage with the red ones is that you dont need to put a extra red reflector somewhere. Also i am disappointed that the turn signals arent LED too, but its harder to do LED turns on our car, cause theres no turn signal relay its all controlled by a computer. So we have to use the load equalizers to make it work and thats not something you can incorporate into the lights themselves.

I dont know where to get them....just saw the pic on a japanese MINI blog. It's the same company that makes the other ones, so i would see if he can get you the red ones instead of the black and clear

Those pictures are linked to a Japanese website. These are probably the same product, listed at a German vendor:

Notice the humongous portion of the photo that's occupied by the sun? I bet they're brighter than that...but as was stated earlier in the thread, brake lights are an area I wouldn't mess around with safety. If it came from the factory that way, sure - but then I bet it'd be a LOT brighter.

You can turn your brake lights on as fast as you want...and the knuckle-dragging mouth breather behind who's not paying attention will still plant their bumper into your car. :(

Went with LEDs a while back, and love them.

Word of caution though, buy GOOD LED lights not the cheap ones on eBay. Find a web site that sells good ones (about $35 EACH) that have back pointing "reflecter" lights also.

I'm not so sure about the 80% thing, mine seem to be much brighter than stock.

Thanks for posting those pics Rally. I went ahead and bought the Red/White tails.

Ill try to post some pics of them when they are lit. But I must say they are really bright both while on park mode and when you actually press on the brakes.
