Interior/Exterior no hoodscoop...
my plan is to rig something up to hit the intake. Havn't figured out how yet since I havnt actually seen it
im curious, does it have to have the black peice under? it seems like it would be easier to divert air to the intake without it?

Since you don't have an intercooler,
you don't need anything but the scoop! that black thing is to route air through the stock IC. But you might want to get one anyway, as it will be easier to attach stuff to it than the metal of the hood.
Should be cool!

Why wouldn't insurance cover the hood scoop? When I got my car insured, I made sure that any modifications that I've made to the car will be covered too. Turns out, I'm allowed $1500 worth of modifications before I have to start reporting the mods to the insurance company. I was under the impression that most of the big insurance companies would have similar policies...
Is the hood scoop really expensive or something?

Ah, crap. Misread the original post. I somehow thought that he had the Cooper S hood and scoop prior to hitting the deer. Nevermind...
is there a way to turn the black thing sideways to route air in the general direction of the intake?
so my mini is still not out of the shop
BUT I went and pulled a late DVD and noticed that they put the origional heat thing back on.. so naturally the hole was plugged up... im curious... is this possible??? I know I saw it right but that can't be good to drive with it like that??? one would think as soon as I got on the highway the air would start pulling it off.
(I might not be calling it the right name...) but that black sheet.. is it different on the cooper S?
Yeah it's different...
but it's soft stuff, so you should just be able to cut it with a knife. Check out this REALOEM.COM to look at the differences between the Cooper hood (R50) and the Cooper S stuff (R53). You'll be able to see all the differences....
FWIW, Classic Auto Campus sells Mini parts to NAM members as 20% off. So if there's anything that you need to get that's not being covered, that will save you a bit....

The graphics are the same...
but the part numbers are different one ends 7753 and one 7754 (once you see one or more pictures, click on one to get the corresponding parts list). But it does look like finding all the other stuff would take some hunting through the site....
